[identity profile] satanwearspink.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I'm Lindsay and I'm 5 months pregnant.

So me and my boyfriend have been at war about a name for our baby boy.

He's italian and I'm irish.

And he has his heart set on Antonio. And personally, I hate it :(

I was wondering if anyone knows any good italian boy names?? I've been looking like a mad person online but honestly it is so hard to find a good italian boy name that doesn't sound like it should belong to a fat mobster sidekick haha.

My favorite name so far?

Caiden (or could be spelled Cayden) with the middle name of Cross.

Caiden Cross <3 I love this one more than anything I've found so far. So irish and strong, it's perfect.

Ah but, the boyfriend wants an italian name.

Any help would be appreciated here. I'm going nuts :)

Aiden is Irish, I'm pretty sure Caiden is just a made up variant.

I could be wrong though.

What if you met in the middle and chose something that was neither distinctly Italian or Irish? Or maybe just Anthony?

Also, may I ask- why Cross?

Why not give the baby an irish first name with an italian middle name (or the other way around), that why, you'd both be even? lol

*Aidan

Yes, spelling counts. Aidan is a variant spelling of the Irish name.

Anthony?

the only thing i can think of is maybe you both should just scrape italian or irish names and just find something you BOTH like no matter what ethnicity the name is.

well if you let him use antonio as the FIRST name but referred to the baby by his middle name all the time then maybe that would be a good solution? when my sister had her second son her husband insisted he be a francisco (like him and his father etc) and for a month after the baby was born his whole family kept trying to call the baby frankie and my sister stuck to tom/tommy/thomas( the middle name) and she eventually won out.babies respond to mom first.

Yeah I'd look for something you both can agreed on and scrap both names. You still have a ton of time left.

Caiden isn't really an Irish name. I mean, there's an Irish surname 'Caden', but the only reason Caiden (and Cayden, and Caden, and Caeden... etc.) is popular right now is because it rhymes with Aidan, Brayden, Jayden, Hayden, etc. It's the type of fake!Irish name that's all the rage right now, so I'd personally avoid it if I wanted to give my child an actual Irish name...

I guess I would suggest making a long list of Italian and Irish names, and then finding one name from each list that you can both agree on... and the baby can have an Italian first name and Irish middle name, or vice versa.

you didn't make it up. someone made it up, as it certainly isn't a real name with actual history behind it (or nationality, sorry, it's not irish) but it's been overused since then. there's probably a million cayden/caden/caiden/kayden/etc out there already. please reconsider. even if you don't go with an italian name.

I'm a half italian, half american, living in Italy.
I generally dislike italian names, but there are a few I don't mind:
Alessandro (Alex is also used here for short), Gabriele, Francesco, Leonardo, Flavio, Giulio, Luca, Alessio, Adriano.

I really like Cross for a middle name :)

My husband is named Anthony, and he's never been called Tony, because his parents never called him Tony, and so it never stuck. I'd reconsider the name if that is only reason you don't want your child named Antonio/Anthony, because it's a very nice name.

Sorry, when I hear Caiden (and all its variants), it doesn't scream "IRISH!" to me. Have you checked out behindthename? They have a very large list of Italian names; I'm sure you can find something you like. Also, there are probably actual Irish names there as well.

Ugh there is like 50 million variants of that name, I'm quite over it.

Can we vote it off the island yet?

Even though Caiden (and its variants) are insanely popular at the moment, if you like it - go for it. If your bf agrees, that is ;)
Just for reference though: Popularity of Caiden, namevoyager (http://www.babynamewizard.com/voyager#prefix=CAIDEN&ms=false&sw=f&exact=false).

I think Luca & Matteo are nice Italian boy names, but other people already mentioned those.

I was wondering why this name sounded so familiar... then I remembered!

Kayden Kross is a female pornstar.

I think there are far worse names out there than Caiden, even though I wouldn't use it myself because it feels really trendy.

It's hard when you're both passionate about this, but could you try and agree to find a name that you both at least would like about a 5 or 6 out of 10? Then come up with a long list of names each, and rate each others' and cross out all the ones that either of you dislikes? Then you'll be left with a list of possibilities that at least neither of you totally hates, even if you don't end up with a 10/10 name.

My opinions on Caiden are another matter, but...

maybe Caiden Antonio? Or even Caiden Anthony? Or is he insistent on the first name being Italian?

my favorite italian names for boys are matteo and luca. why do the names have to be italian OR irish? if you two are having trouble agreeing on one, maybe go through some name books and find a name you both like and use that, regardless of the origin.

also, i would suggest checking out nymbler.com. you can type in names that you both like and it'll come up with other ones based on your styles. :) good luck.
