It's legitimate enough. It's derived from Tobias. I think it's kind of silly though. It sounds like it should be a diminuative of Tobias. Or like something we'd call my cat for fun (his name is Tobias).

Lol I know. I know a guy who's nickname is Toby. I started calling him Tobin one day and could not figure out where I got it from. Then I watched I love you man for the second time and went 'ohhhhh' And then I decided that I like the name.

There's a fellow student in my grad program named Tobin. I think he's 23 or 24. When I first saw his name, I thought it was young/trendy and was surprised that there was an adult with his name.

I think I'm too much of a Saw fan to use it, for that exact reason. Given who I most associate the name with, it would just be too.... creepy, I think. I do love Tobias, though.

When i lived in Denmark one of the farmhands was named Tobin. And he was kind of a jerk so I never really liked the name, as compared to the most adorable mischievous little boy named Tobias which made me love Tobias (unfortunately my husband can only associate that name with Arrested Development.
