I have a two-part question for y'all.

1) What is your name?

2) What nicknames do you have that are somehow related to your name?

I'm Samantha, and I have four nicknames. the first two are obvious -- Sam and Sammy.
my third nickname is "Sammymantha"...my uncle started calling me that when I was a baby. it stuck. it's kind of cute, but I would murder anyone outside of my family who used it.
and finally, my mom used to call me "Miss Samantha" when I was in a bad mood when I hit my teenage years (which was quite often, hah) and it eventually got shortened to "Missantha". I actually love this one.

I'm Amanda. My mom never wanted anyone to call me 'Mandy' but most of my friends do. I answer to Mandy, Manda, Amy, Mana/Mia (the kids who I babysit and my niece and nephew call me that[=) and most recently Amanda Panda. My parents don't have name nicknames for me or my sister, they call us by our given names or by little nicknames they gave us when we were babies.

My name is Courtney. My parents chose it so that they could call me Corey (spelled that way because it's after a Harry Chapin song). one of my brothers calls me Core (the other siblings and my parents often call me Cissy - but it's not name related). I have a few friends that call me Court, but it's definitely not a nn I like.

Most everyone just calls me Courtney.

My name is Elizabeth and my parents wanted me to be Elizabeth, NOT Liz or Lizzy or Beth or anything. So I grew up totally never allowing anyone to call me those things. Instead my best friend called me Izzy or IzzyBeth, my dad calls me Elizamouse, my big sister calls me Lizard or LauraBeth (my first name is Laura), and my little siblings call me either Libba or Baba. Baba is actually my most commonly used nickname. My little brother recently started calling me Eebar for reasons known only to himself.

I kinda think Liz would have been better.

P.S. My parents' moratorium on nicknames had similar unforeseen consequences for my siblings.

Misty (a name with no nicknames)--Moose.
Amanda (NOT Mandy)--Meena.
Rachel (NOT Rach)--Chel.
Christopher (NOT Chris)--Kip, Kid, and Pher.

My name is Amy and my middle name is Jane. My step dad calls me A.J all the time. My other nicknames are Mayme (My little sister couldn't say Amy and this was what she called me & and still calls me it today) Last year my niece Megan started talking and instead of Auntie Amy she would call me Annie Mi Mi. So cute!

1) Ariel. I was born in the '60s, back when Ariel was usually a male name.

2) Aries, Ari, Eris, Israel, R'el, Reli, Reli Sandwich, Reli Subway Sandwich, Ri the Retard, Mermaid

I'm nothing like Disney's Ariel. I am, however, like an antagonist of hers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Characters_from_Disney%27s_The_Little_Mermaid#Marina_Del_Rey), which is interesting...

Most people call me R'el. Short name for someone as long-winded as me. Reli Subway Sandwich was given to me by a person with a crush on me. Ri the Retard was started by one of my lovely brothers and it's never stopped. Israel is one of my favorites. "You remind me of the nation of Israel," I was told. "You shouldn't even be here by now, but you just don't die." I have beat odds, through dumb luck or otherwise.

NB:
I am female! My mother thought she could only have sons before me and stuck me with an androgynous name!

Yeah, quite a few people call me Sam-I-Am, and I do get asked about Green Eggs and Ham more often than I'd like.

I never got where Sam-bo came from either but it seems weird that more than one person has used it for a nickname when it doesn't have any real significance, you know?

My name is Lauren Juliana.

I have always been called Lauren by my family and friends since I never really had a nickname I went by growing up or even now. I have had a few nicknames given to me when I was older though; when I was in college people started calling me Lara - and when my cousins were little they couldn't pronounce my name so they all called me Ren (a lot of them still do).

I couldn't pronounce my own name until I was six because I had a speech issue (I couldn't say my "L"s or "R"s (problem much?!) So I called myself "Wawhen" and sometimes my grandparents will good around and call me that.

1. Rebecca, but I've been Becky as far back as I can remember.

2. Beck (and Loser, because it was by the singer Beck), Bec, Becbecbec, Bex, Beckster, Beckeroo, Beckybonzai, Beckyaliendio, and what an old boss used to call me - Reboqua/Boqua. I have no idea where he came up with that.

Brianna

My most common nickname is Bri. I've also been called Bri-Bri and BB. And because I have younger cousins and siblings I've gotten Brinana, Bree-Naner, Banana, and most commonly Na-Na. and my best friend calls me Na-No as a nickname to Na-Na.

I don't have a ton of nicknames, which is weird, because you'd think a name like Cristina would generate a couple of good ones. The only one that has ever stuck was "Cris", and only my best friends from high school, in-laws, and husband call me that. I'm not sure how and why; I never refer to myself as Cris, and I have never encouraged it. (But I don't mind it!)

I also have a not-so-super-secret first name that nobody calls me, but my friend April (whom I call May) thought up the nickname "Mars" for it and to date is one of the only people who keeps my first name relevant.

Failed nicknames include Tina (that lasted all of a week), Anitsirc (back when saying your name backwards was AWESOME -- I've just dated myself), Mary (also a derivative of my 1st name).

I forgot "Tun Tin". That would be pronounced like "toon teen", and only my grandmother calls me that. She sometimes shortens it to "Tunti" (toon-tee). That one stems from your typical "Aw, the baby butchered her own name, let's make sure she remembers this for the rest of her life" situation!

My name is Erica Lynn. My dad started Lynnski. My mom calls me Rica. When one of my cousins was little (20-22 years ago), he called me Er-a. He couldn't pronounce my name for a long time. To this day he still calls me that.
