Okay, this is kind of an odd question but are there any names that you like because of how they sound, but hate how they look written down? My partner just mentioned that he loves the name Shiloh but hates how it looks on paper. I realize that I don't like it written down as much as I like it said. Do you have any names like this?

Conversely, are there any names that you like written down but don't like when said aloud? I think the name Penelope looks kind of pretty on paper but I hate hate hate it when said aloud. What about you?

I like the way Persephone, Sarah, Elvira, Bryan, Samuel, Michael, Lois, and Lydia look, but not sound.

And I hate how Jeffery looks, but love the sound of it.

I always liked Emma but fell in love with the way Emilie looked on paper. We named our first daughter Emilie. :) Alistair is one I like written down but find it a bit harsh when said aloud.

Phoebe is one that I like spoken but not written.

And I have to agree with a comment above and say that Lydia looks pretty but I don't like the way it sounds.

My mom is dyslexic and our dogs name is Phoebe, she ALWAYS misspelled it, so I just changed it to Feebee. You can do this for a dog, not a human though :)

I like Oona written, but I'm not in love with the sound. I love how the name Orly sounds but I hate Orli and Orly in print.

Also, I hate almost any --eigh name written; like Hailey sounds fine, but I hate how Hayleigh looks. Ditto Kyleigh, Myleigh, Ryleigh, etc.

I like how Leah sounds better than how it looks. It looks like "yeah"

I like Anika spelled that way, but I would want it to be pronounced like Annika but I don't like how that looks. Which is unusual for me because I believe it is more commonly spelled Annika and I normally prefer the most common spelling.

Like their look, but not their sound: Emilie and, sometimes, Amelia.

I don't like the name Alicia in general, but this spelling drives me crazy. I /always/ want to pronounce it A-lee-see-ah. To me, this spelling is kind of soft, whereas the general pronunciation of A-leesh-a is really harsh. XP

I know there's another one...I see it on here ALL the time, but I can't think of it now. X(

I think Calliope and Siobhan look really pretty, but I hate the sound. I think Persephone sounds pretty, but I hate the spelling. I'm sure there are others, because I think I've made statements like this in posts before, but I can't think of any of them off the top of my head.

Fergus is a name that looks awful but sounds great when said by an Irish or Scottish person.

I like the sound of the name Niamh, but I don't like the spelling. I'm a stickler for spelling, so I wouldn't spell it differently. I could possibly use a similar name - Neve - which I think looks prettier and sounds similar, even though it's an entirely different name.
