Giada De Laurentiis named her daughter Jade. I just found out that Giada actually means Jade in Italian. Would you name your child a form of your or your partner's name?

Well, if we have a son we're giving him my fiance's middle name (Coleman) as a first name since it's tradition to pass it down. However, I wouldn't name my child a variation of my first name (Christina). I'd never have a Crystal, Kristin, Christian, Christa, Christopher, etc.

I really dislike 'jrs' as 'traditions,' but I don't mind being more creative. (I.e. what [livejournal.com profile] hollis1975 said, not kry8tivity, to clarify.)

I've considered using the middle name June because it's my birth month and I like the name by itself. Stuff like that I'm alright with. Just no exact replicas; I think kids need their own names.

Jade is one of my favourite names, I love it!

I think a different form of the same name is fine. I wouldn't use an actual "Jr" name myself, but I don't mind them, and this is like one step removed from that. I especially don't mind it in this case, because it's slightly less obvious. I wouldn't like it as much if the mother was named Christine and the child Christina, for instance. But something like Isabelle/Elizabeth, where not everyone necessarily knows they're the same, I think that's cool.

I would never name a son Samuel (after my name Samantha), or a daughter Stephanie (after my husband's name Steven). Samuel's okay, but I loathe Stephanie (along with Tiffany, Brittany, Courtney, etc).

I would. I like my name (stefanie) enough to gift it as a middle name. And my middle name is one that I want to use in its female or male versions (alexandra)

I might. It would have to be something fairly different, though. My name is Natasha and I definitely wouldn't name a daughter Natalie (I also really don't like that name). However, my partner does intend on giving his first name to his first born son as a middle name. I think he would also consider using a variant of his name, but like I said, it would have to be different enough that it sounded okay.

The best I could do would be Laurel, but it's too close. There's really no way to give a son a similar name to his father. We could use the same beginning sound-- we did consider Daichi once.

My baby is being named after my grandmother who I was also named after, so even though it is a different form, her middle name is sort of after my first name. When we have a boy, I wanted to name him Julian after my mother Julia but my husband says it's too whimpy.

My dads name is Lee and my parents made my middle name Leigh.
I love it, and it flows nicely with my first name.

My sister's boyfriend's sister's name is Tricia. Tricia's mom's name is Patricia. I heard that when her mom was pregnant, she asked her son (Tricia's older brother) what to name the baby. And he said Tricia. So that's how she got her name. Patricia now goes by Pat.

My name, Mette, might be originated from Mathilde/Mathilda, and tbh, I wouldn't mind using that name because I think it's really pretty.
But then again, I don't really see it as being close to my name anyway.
