I was recently thinking how difficult it is for me to come up with names for one child, let alone multiple children. I can't get one name to stick for more than a month or two before deciding that it is awful and needs to be revamped, completely. This lead me to ponder how you name multiples, then. (And here's where our game ties in, eventually.) How would you name a set of twins? Would you just, automatically, use your top two girls or boys names? Is there more of an importance for twins, triplets, or quads, to have similar/different names, rather than if they had been six, three, or ten years apart? (I apologize if this seems like word vomit, I've been awake for over twenty-four hours.)

And now, your task:

In your opinion, the worst names for a b/b, g/g, and b/g set of twins? What about triplets? What about quads? (Can be similar in sound, theme, or just terrible names.)

If you gave birth to twins, triplets, or quads, what would you name them? How would you choose?

I'm not 100% sure what I'd do. I definitely would not name completely matched names like Alexander and Alexandra or anything, but I do like the idea of using names that are very similar in style. I feel like that's even more important for twins/multiples than it is for regular siblings, although I am a huge believer in using names that compliment each other well and that are similar styles for all siblings. For example, naming your kids Giovanni, Francesca, Mario, and...Yitzak is probably going to get a few wtf looks. But I also don't like the idea of naming your kids all names that start with the same letter a la the Duggars.

I would probably go with my top 2/3/4 whatever names, but I would also choose them carefully to make sure that they are similar enough to work well but still different enough that they can have their own identity and it's not overly cutesy.

Probably I'd name mine:
[b/b]: Jasper & Elias
[b/g]: Jasper & Harriet
[g/g]: Harriet & Louisa

Recently I was thinking if I had twin boys what would I name them. Don't have the middle names but I was thinking

Maxim nn "Max" and Maddox nn "Mads"

Don't really know where it came from but I like it.

my worst name for twins is actually:

Alexander and Alexandra... poor kids. Their middle names didn't help either, Alex (the girl) had the middle name Nicole and Nick (the guy) was... Nicholas.

I don't usually mind same intials but the things is a doctor once explained to me that twins already have a hard time finding their unique self when they are growing up that given them names with th same sound and nearly the same letters also hinge their personal growth as kids... or that's the case with a lot of twins anyway. Same initals tend to be ok though because you can have a name like Christina and then name their twin something far form that like Celia.

As for the others I am usually afan of names with similar meanings but not similar sounds all together.

I guess the one that jump at me are for quads: Luna, Rhiannon, Juno and Chandra. All names are related to the Moon (which is the female symbol in most mithology) and Goddesses

Sorry for the long comment btw >.>

I would use my top two favorite names for twins.

Lydia and Christina for girls.
Simon and Nicholas for boys.
Lydia and Simon for a boy and a girl.

I would never use rhyming names or names that started with the same letter for multiples. That just seems too cutesy for me.

I really hate matchy names for twins. My Mom and my Aunt are Arlene and Eileen lol. As much as I love their names separately, together is a bit much!

I'd just go with the names I had picked for a boy/girl for this pregnancy:
Donald Gabriel (nn Gabe, Donald is a family name) / Samantha (still haven't decided on a middle!)

As for same sex, I'd just go down the list of my favorites:
G/G:
Samantha / Maeve (no clue on middles haha)

B/B:
Donald Gabriel / William Jestin (nn Liam, both family names)

i would just use my favorite names. its irrelevant to me whether or not theyre twins. its not special circumstances, theyre still two different people. i would say its probably actually even more important with twins identities.

my absolute favorite twin set a couple of years ago was oliver and isabel (ollie and issie) but i hate the popularity now of both. boo.

anyway, i would choose...

BB: oliver and jasper
GG: josie and ruby
BG: noah and lily

triplets and quads would be some variation of the names above, throwing in sophie, francesca, asa and finn.

ETA cause i feel like it

i am big on personal meaning for middles, so...

boy middles are:
john
gray
rhett
shepherd
snow

girl middles are:
colleen
marie/mary/mae
winter
sweet
francesca

Ahh nice, I was actually JUST thinking about this earlier and considered making a post about it - I read a post on some forum about a lady who would name twin daughters something, but wouldn't use the names otherwise... sort of just designated twin names. Of course, this made me curious about if other people do/have that.

I think too matchy is bad - like Samuel/Samantha, Alexander/Alexandra. Or something like Eva/Ava or Madison/Addison.. or multiple -aydens. However, I think that's bad on any sibset, but twins makes it worse.

Anyway. Long comment. For girls.. I have Madison and Alexa picked out as "twin names," nn Maddie and Lexie. Not sure if I'd use Alexa otherwise, but I like Maddie a lot. For boys.. any of my top names. Maybe Liam and Owen? I think I'd just start choosing favorites from my list and decide that way.

it depends, honestly. sometimes I think matchy names are kind of cute, and sometimes I think they suck. I would probably end up using some of my favorite names that go well together.

if i had twins tomorrow, this is what i would name them (probably)

g/g: Scarlett and Ruby
b/b: Nicholas (nn Cole) and Landon
b/g: Scarlett and Nicholas (nn Cole)

I would only use both Scarlett and Ruby in a twinset, not a regular sibset, because what if I had a third girl who didn't have a "red" name? the only other one I can think of is Poppy, and I'm not a huge fan of it.

I'd use my top names, provided they sounded nice together and weren't the same (i.e. Julian and Juliana). I don't see why naming multiples is any different than naming single children. Some people who think that just because you give birth to them at once, it means they're a set and should have matchy-matchy names.

Worst would be rhyming (Arlene and Carlene, Ayden and Jayden) or a very obvious theme (Rose, Lily and Ivy). Famous couples would be bad too (Bonnie and Clyde or Adolph and Eva).

Names I'd use for twins/triplets or quads:
Madeline Amelia
Elizabeth Audrey
Benjamin Colin
Theodore Josiah

Ha, sometimes I think I'll have to have multiple children if I want to use all my good names! Not multiple as in sets, though. More than one baby/toddler at a time would make me insane.

None of my names match per se, but I see a theme in the names I like; for boys they tend to be more biblical (Judah, Isaac, Benjamin) and for girls they seem un-biblical, if that makes sense, (Alice, Mathilde, Eva and Immogen.) Our plan is just to use our favorites with whatever children/genders we have and not worry about how they match each other.

Oh, and I knew twins named Stormi and Windi. Terrible!

I would use the same names for multiples as for single birth siblings, but I do have a bit of a theme. It's a family tradition to do two middle names, and I plan to do that with the exception of possibly my first boy being a Jr. if I like his father's name enough. I'd also like to name any girls I may have after songs.

Worst: Madeleine Anastasia & Anna Lynn (reverses of each other kind of, AND super different in length!)

Oh and my top names:
Landon Nicholas
Elliott James
Conor David
Iris Emily
Charlotte Ann
Jocelyn "Josie" Michele
(2nd middles would be up to daddy, and might be made 1st middles for flow)

I hate rhyming names for any siblings, but most especially twins. M/F variations on the same name also get under my skin. Most twins I've known (I've not personally known any triplets on up) had decent names. Jana and Ryan, Lari and Jason, Sharon and Michael. The worst were twin girls named Nikki and Vikki. They even dressed exactly the same up into college.

If I had multiples, I'd probably just use my top favorite names. Well, unless it was a boy/girl set. My favorites right now are Valerie and Vincent... just a bit too close for twins I think.

I wouldn't just use the top names on the list for multiples: I'd look for things that "went together" in style, but that weren't from the same root and didn't have the same initials.

The worst are matchy names eg Felix and Felicity, Jane and Jean, Louis and Louise: it's as if there's one identity spread over two kids.

Yeah...some people might think that but that's their opinion. I read in my name book that Maxim is Russian for Maxime which is French for "Most excellent" so...I would still name my son that regardless. But thank you for your concern :)

That would be difficult and apparently it's my generation to have twins so I may be facing this sometime in the future. I know a set of twins named Stephanie and Stacey. They're fraternal so unless you know they're twins, when you stick their other sister Jackie in there you wonder why Jackie doesn't have an S name too. Even knowing that they're twins it's still strange to say Stephanie, Stacey, and Jackie.

I'd probably use the names I like. They aren't very similar but they are all sort of traditional but sadly becoming really popular.

Twins:
Benjamin and Patrick
Emma and Benjamin
Emma and Sophie (my other favs are Ella and Anna so no, I wouldn't do that)

Triplets:
Benjamin, Patrick, Finn
Emma, Benjamin, Patrick
Emma, Sophie, Benjamin
Emma, Sophie, Penelope (maybe)

Quads (oh my):
Benjamin, Patrick, Finn, Caleb
Emma, Benjamin, Patrick, Finn
Emma, Sophie, Benjamin, Patrick
Emma, Sophie, Penelope, Benjamin
Emma, Sophie, Penelope, Honor (this is hard).

I have so many more boy names than girl names so this was difficult.

g/g : Elodie James & Hermione Genevieve
b/b : Alexander William & Zachary Noah
g/b : Elodie James & Alexander William

One of my co-workers' MIL's name is Ingaborg Elizabeth. She has a twin named Elizabeth Ingaborg. Their mother did not know she was carrying twins. And once they were born, she only had 1 name picked out. So she decided she would flip the first & middle names.

Ingaborg Elizabeth (nn Inga)
Elizabeth Ingaborg (nn Elsa)

From what I've heard, both of them love their names.

If I had multiples, I would name them just as though I'd had them separately. I hate when people name multiples as if being a multiple defines their existences. Ew.

My grandmother was a twin. She was Ada and her twin sister was Ida. I think that's bad.

If I had multiples, I'd probably name them as though I had them separately. Obviously I wouldn't use names that were too similar, but then I wouldn't use names that were too similar if I had my children separately, either. I dislike it when people name twins/triplets/however many as though they are a set rather than individuals.

So I'd name them:

Girl/girl twins: Isadora Claire and Eve Shiloh
Boy/girl twins: Felix Grey and Isadora Claire
Boy/boy twins: Felix Grey and James Dietrich/James Vincent
