I'm really liking Clementine lately.

Its mostly a guilty pleasure name for me. I probably wouldn't use it as a first name because of "oh my darlin'.." and the fact that its a fruit!

I would definitely consider if for a middle name though.

WDYT?

My old band director has a daughter named Clementine. She just turned three. I think it's a wonderful name, though that's probably because the one I know is adorable.

I really don't think it's too out there for a first name now that I know one, but it would be awesome to see as a mn as well.

Not my style, but I don't mind it as a middle name. I think it's too loaded (for the reasons you listed) for a first name, but it's cute with the right first name. Sarah Dessen, who writes YA books, named her daughter Sasha Clementine. I think it's cute.

I like it a lot. My husband and I are big Eternal Sunshine fans, and it was the first movie that we ever saw together, so it would be like a nod towards that for us... nothing to do with Huckleberry Hound :o) Actually, I don't see how kids could really know that song these days. It's not very popular still, so I doubt they'd get teased.

One of my close friends is dead set on naming her daughter Clementine and her son Emmett. NMS but they completely fit her.

Besides the song, I just find it a little corny and old-western-movie-ish.
"clementina" is the italian word for "tangerine", but I honestly have a soft spot for fruit names (planning on naming my daughter "apple" in hungarian ;) ) Clementina (Clay-me-TEE-nah) is also a female name in italian, but entirely not used anymore in modern days.

i think its a fantastic name. i would never use it because we are 99% sure our kids will have red hair, so that would well just be... odd.

i fully support the use of it on other non-redheaded children, however!

Alma :) my boyfriend had a spur-of-the-moment inspiration about naming his daughter "apple" (after the Into the wild movie) and I whipped out one of my dictionaries, which happened to be hungarian :) and "alma" luckily happens to be an actual name hehe (she risked being a kraisfeltz or something hahah)
he fell in love with it right away, and after a couple of seconds it had grown on me too!

I like it, but I don't think I'd use it. I grew up in Georgia with New Yorkers as parents so my dad would say "Well golllllllllllly, Clementine" whenever I said anything Southern growing up. Now he's learned to deal with it, but if I named a child Clementine, my father would never stop teasing me.

I think it's horrible. And it's not because it's fruit, I have two fruit names on my own list. It's just not a pretty name to me.

It's not my style really but my sister adores it and I think it's cute, just not for me =)( and I had no idea of the fruit thing eiother... so it's still an awesome name for me.

personally I love it as both a first name and a middle name. I would use it as either, or rather I would if my SO didn't loathe it :)

It's not really my style. I certainly don't think it's a terrible name though.

I've found myself liking it more and more lately. It's not on my list right now, but it's a name I definitely don't mind seeing people use.

I actually was thinking of using the name alma because it means soul in Spanish and I thought that was a nice meaning.

Lucky you weren't in my house when you reached for a dictionary or your girl would be aeble which isn't nearly as nice as alma

Love it. It's on my favorites. I like it enough for a first name, but obviously it's a bit strange so I don't know if I really will use it, as my future hypothetical husband might not agree.
