[identity profile] bambiblake007.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
but my cousin and his wife had a baby a few months ago and they named him WAYLON CASH
that's what they had picked out when they had their daughter a couple yrs ago, if she'd been a boy.
her name is LILA-LEA PEARL (Lea is her mom & grandmother's middle names ;; Pearl is from my cousin's maternal grandmother)

backstory on the name...my cousin is a huge fan of both Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash.  i actually really like the name and the fact that it means something to him and wasn't just pulled out of the air for the sake of being cool or creative.  when they were pregnant with Lila, my aunt told me about the names they had picked out in case the baby was a boy and this was the number 1 name on their list.  i told her they should nickname him SHOOTER if they did end up using it cos Waylon Jennings' son's real name is Waylon, but he goes by Shooter and since my cousin is also a huge fan of his music, i thought it would be a cute nickname.

WDYT?

I don't like the name Waylon, and I personally would not name my child after a celebrity. After a beloved family member, yes; after a celebrity, no.

I think it's nifty. It's not my fave, but, it could certainly be worse.

I think Lila-Lea sounds like they couldn't commit, though, even if it has a meaning.

I know a baby named Townes Waylon, after Townes Van Zandt and Waylon Jennings.

I love Cash. Waylon's not too, too bad.

Yeah um... I didn't even need the backstory on Waylon Cash, I so had that pegged right away. Gotta love being Southern.

I don't really like the names, but I respect their meaning to your cousin. I plan on using Elliott on a boy in honor of Elliott Smith. His real name is Stephen Paul Smith, which I could use since my dad's name is Paul so it'd be kind of a two-for-one honoring name, but I like the name Elliott better, and it was the name he chose for himself. Idk.

It's funny you bring this up, because I was thinking about the name Waylon for a horse, with the barn name "Cash" :P

Anyway, I like it because I too am a big WJ/JC fan. As for Shooter being the nickname, I would say no. That was a Jennings family creation, and I think it's a little too much copycat. Maybe pick another random name, but too copyish for me.
