[identity profile] mudinherblood.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
So, I'm two and a half months pregnant and trying to get a head start on baby names. :) I am apposed to boring or popular names since I've been pained with the name Ashley. I want my child's name to be unique, but not too weird or kry8tiv. I'm looking for names that look kind of normal but aren't popular. Anything you guys can throw out there that's similar to these names would be much appreciated![Poll #1429187][Poll #1429187]

While they may not be high on the SS charts, they are popular looking. It smacks of that pretentious style that's all the rage lately, and if it looks like a duck...

Colette is kinda cute, but Coey sounds weird. Like you're reaching too hard for a NN.

I used to know a little boy called Beckham, he loved his name as he was a big David Beckham fan (as were his parents) I imagine it would get a bit redundant if he wasn't a fan as he got asked all the time if he was named after David Beckham.

I mean if it sounds popular, it's going to just be lumped in that 'trendy' category, even if the numbers don't necessarily reflect it.

I agree with this. Especially on Colette.

The only names I like are Weston and Colette. Coey? I don't know about that.

But spell it Callaghan! It's a legit surname, and definitely on my list. :-)

I don't really care for any of the girls names. What about Adrienne, instead of Arienne? When I see it as you have it, I automatically pronounce it Aryan... :-\

Coey?
I like Weston but not the nn West. I prefer Wes. I would imagine with David Beckham that Beckham would be a bit of a popular name.

Suggestions for a girl because I hate boy names lol..

Aurelie
Cosette (I think is prettier than Colette)
Mirielle (maybe nn-Miri?)

i think she means while the names themselves may not be trendy they SOUND trendy. there has been an upsurge of last name type names as first names for boys ( business wealthy type names) and people ARE reaching back for old fashioned girls names, of which colette is one, and arienne sounds like you were trying to get away from arianna .

I think it looks more balanced with the "a," if that makes sense? The "i" just looks random. I don't know, it's a family name, so maybe that's why it's tripping me out. :-)

I vote for Weston & Colette. I like Weston and LOVE Colette. Not too big on Coey, though, but that's all up to you of course! ;)

I actually really like Weston and Colette. I agree that Callighan should be spelled Callaghan, it looks more balanced.

Surnames for boys are extremely trendy right now. So the individual names may not be too popular, but the category they fall into is, and the names look trendy nonetheless. Also, with Beckham, everyone will immediately think of David Beckham.

Arienne is pretty nice, but I have a feeling that people wouldn't be able to spell or pronounce it half the time. I like Colette a lot, I think it's a very pretty name. I don't understand Coey at all, though.

Not my style, but they're okay: Callighan, Weston, Beckham, Arienne, and Colette. However, I don't like Weston's nickname or Callighan's spelling, and Beckham will probably get you both asked about the footie player quite often.

Bainon is ugly and Coey is...both ugly looking and ridiculous sounding. =/

Agreed with all of it. The WASP-y surnames as first names is really popular now.

I agree that they all sound trendy, regardless if they are.

Bainon, especially with that nickname, sounds like "the bane of my existance."
Callaghan is a legit surname, and looks misspelled with the I.
Weston is nice, but it's got that trendy feel to it.
Beckham sounds like you're a huge David Beckham fan. What about Beckett? It's very similar, but doesn't sound like you're a huge David Beckham fan. Bennett is also similar, and sounds nicer.

Arienne sounds like Aryan to me, which is not something I'd want my child associated with.
Colette is nice.
Coey sounds like you're trying way too har.

I'm with the others about the boy names. They are or sound like surnames, which is a trendy thing. Bainon, with the nickname Bain is not good. Ever here "you are the bane of my existence", which means someone is ruins things, or causes damage in someone's life.

Arienne isn't too bad, but it is close to Aryan, which has negative connotations.
Colette, for me is too much like coulats, a type of short pants, popular in the 80's. Coey as a name or nick name almost sounds like a mispronunciation of cozy.

Other suggestions:
Boys
Agustin nn Gus
Brydan nn Bry
Glendon nn Glen
Kylan nn Ky

Girls
Anastasia nn Stassy
Aubrielle nn's Aubrie, Brie, Elle
Brinley nn Brin
Emlyn nn Em, Emmy, Lyn

I like Callaghan, and I love the nickname Cal. Colette is nice too, it just reminds me of Les Mis and therefore makes me kinda depressed. Some names that are similar (well, kinda) to those you listed:

Bowie
Callum (or Calvin!)
Ellis
Malcolm
Warren

Juniper
Mina
Wren

I don't like any of those boys' names -- honest opinion, they sound like names that are trying really hard to be different and edgy. Particularly Beckham, since people will assume you named your son after David Beckham.

I like Arianne and Collette.

Why don't you just organically let a nickname develop? You may be calling her something that is completely unrelated to her first name, like June or Rosie or Twinkletoes or what have you. For whatever reason.

Why are they so popular? I have no idea. I guess it's a good way to give your kid a "unique" and strong-sounding name?
