I have only heard the name Mateo last week for the first time. What do you guys think of it?

It's pronounced mah-TAY-oh for anyone who isn't sure.

It's the Spanish version of Matthew.

I like it, but I'd call the boy Matt or Matty or something.

I don't mind it. I think it's usually spelled Matteo.

I think both spellings are common. In fact, I have seen Mateo more often than Matteo. I'll ask my friend Matthew who went to Mexico and studied and was called Mateo how they spelled it. I'm pretty sure it was with one 't' though.

Also, San Mateo.

One of my college friends is expecting a baby boy, and this is what he is going to be named! :)

No, I'd give him the name Matteo, but just call him Matt or Matty

I think it's pretty nice, but it's very common for babies around here - or rather, Matteo (with two T's) is, as that's the Italian form.

I really like it! Spelled Matteo it's even nicer, I think, but that might just be me.

I think it depends on the culture of origin. My nephew (who is half Mexican) is named Mateo and the Italian foreign exchange student I went to high school with is Matteo.

I love it. Too bad my step-sister has a son with that name or I'd totally use it.

this is what I was going to say. My younger brother's given name is Matthew but we call him Teo because of Mateo (it's a stretch but our whole family speaks Spanish and it just stuck)
