[identity profile] a-tergo-lupi.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I've been prodding back and forth at this idea for a while, and I thought I'd share.
Some of these are on my list, some are out there even for me.

Now, a lot of these are last names, and so I'm just going to splat them out there and let you determine which ones ought to be boys and which ought to be girls. I've included some people's whole names, if they're especially awesome. But, there are lots of scientists etc with "ordinary" names which I've left off.

Also, some of these seem to be awesome middle names only. And I've put them in no particular order, cause I'm lazy.

Most of these, being surnames, would sound pretty pretentious as a first name. But it would be kind of cool to use them as middle names. I'll just go through and say m or f and if I like or dislike.

Jefferson - m, okay
Dalton - m, dislike
Mendel - m, okay
Barton - m, okay
Carson - m, dislike
Brandt - m, like
Wollaston - m, like
Davy - m, like, but it's a nn for David so I wouldn't use it as a full name
Marie - f or m, like
Curie - f, okay
Conrad - m, dislike
Bertrand - m, okay
Russell - m, okay
Gilbert - m, okay
Harvey - m, okay
Newton - m, okay

Pascal is not unusual here, both on boys and girls. I think it's quite cute, but not something I'd use.
I also like:
Camus (guilty pleasure)
Olivier
Casey
Lorentz
Mendel
Franklin
Elion
Germain (too bad it's so close to 'germ')
Morgan
Karsten

I'm so not familiar with science, I only recognize the most famous names from that list!
Almost all sound like boy names to me, apart from Casey, Katharine, Pascal (which is unisex to me), Marie, Beatrix, Sabin, Merian, Halley Wren and Carroll!

I have to say I wouldn't use most of them, but there are a few that I like, mainly those like Craig or Russell that are 'proper' first names and not just surnames. I like Kelvin but we'd be straying from nerd territory into geek territory there for me because I mainly like it thanks to Star Trek lol.

I like several of them, Newton for example, but I probably wouldn't use them. Aside from your list, I think Darwin would make a cool (middle) name, but again I wouldn't actually use it.

DH had this idea. He said "Something like Isaac for Newton, but maybe just not Isaac" and then he couldn't come up with a single one he liked. Hehe.
