[identity profile] queenfinn.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
One of my close friends had a baby last January. The father had passed away and she was considering honoring him with the name of the baby. His name was Alexander, making it very easy to make suitable for a boy or girl. Then she did a complete 180 and named the little girl Evelyn Alethia and she is called Evie (E-V). The middle name is the same middle name as herself and her mom which is her great grandmother's name. It's Catherine Alethia, Jaclyn Alethia, and Evelyn Alethia. I love the name Evelyn. Her middle name I have never been to crazy about but I love how they all have the same sounding names. WDYT?

Also, a third grade class I spent time in last year had a girl in it named Emilia (Amelia) and she was called Emmy. I love it. WDYT?

Evelyn is a lovely name and I really like the nn Evie, but that's too bad she didn't use some form of Alexander's name, like Alexandra, at least as a middle name. I don't like Alethia but I do respect the tradition of passing the name down. I like Catherine, and I like Jacqueline spelled a few different ways (my fave being Jacquelyn because my friend spells it that way) but I don't really did it spelled Jaclyn... I'm assuming that's how it's pronounced anyway.

I prefer Amelia, pronounced kinda like uh-MEEL-ya vs. the em-eel sound of Emilia. I love Emmy as a NN though.

I love Evelyn -- she has very nice taste. Evie is really cute, too :)

I don't like Emilia. I just like Amelia. Or Emily. It seems like an odd mash-up of the two.

When I was a teenager, I loved Emilia as a name. I thought that, if I had a daughter, I'd call her Emilia/Emmy. But I inevitably met an Emilio, called Emy (pronounced the same way), and he was an ass, so that ruined that!!

It's a feminine version of Emilio.
