[identity profile] todaydream.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
A sibset I saw at the playground today:

Madelief Azalea (g, about 4 years old - Madelief is the Dutch word for a daisy)
Wolf Winter (b, about 2 years old)

Their mother was about 20 weeks pregnant and that's why we started talking about names (that's how I got to know their middle names). The newborn baby is either going to be named Violet Rose (for a girl) or Hunter (for a boy, middle name was still undecided).

Hm... I smell a theme here and I'm not sure whether or not I like it. The kids were really cute, though :P

Too naturey for me too, though I don't think it a bad sibset. Very interesting. But I do find it a bit odd that only the oldest girl has a Dutch name and that both girls have two flower names.

Madelief is quite lovely, paired with Azalea it's a little much but I quite like it. I don't like Wolf Winter at all. Violet Rose seems a little generic for her taste

She definitely like Mcmanly names for her boys'.

Hunter, brother to Wolf..? uh, no thanks!!

I don't like the flower redundancy in the girl's name, but Madelief sounds really pretty, I'd never heard it before!

Madelief is one of my top names (I'm Dutch). It's just perfect. With Azalea it's a little too much, though.

They actually aren't too awful for my tastes. I could get with Madelief and Hunter quite easily. Infact, I like Hunter a lot. And Madelief sounds like Madeline which is one of my favourite names.

Inn Dutch it's pronounced like Mah-de-LEAF, though! =)

Sibling themes annoy me, and this one is more annoying than most - some nature names are actually names, and others are...weird. Why would you give a boy the middle name Winter? That sounds like a girl's name. And Wolf is just a weird first name. When he goes to school...his name will be Wolf! When he's applying to college or for jobs he's going to have to but Wolf Winter Whatever on his applications. When they call his name when he walks across the stage...

I think parents should think about each of these scenarios before they choose names for their kids and remember that their children will only spend around 20 years being kids/adolescents and the rest of their lives (hopefully 60+ years) being adults. They need names that will work well for adults, not just age 2.

That said, I like Violet and I like Rose as a middle name, but not together. Madelief is pretty, but I don't like Madelief Azalea. Too flowery.

Wait, Violet Rose? As much as I don't already don't like the use of Rose as a filler middle name, it really doesn't work when the first name is a flower too.

There is a definitely a theme there, and I don't like theme-y sibsets on principle.

Those names are definitely not going to get a huge amount of approval from this crowd, lol. I am more into nature names than a lot of the other frequent posters and even I think it's a bit much.

I don't think I'd ever use more than one nature name per kid, for one thing. Some of my favorite names for girls are Iris, Lily, Raine, and Skye, but I would use them separately. I also think I would do something like Iris Marie and Catherine Raine, where the first names aren't too matchy.

Just my personal opinion, obviously. :)

Hunter, the brother of Wolf? LOL Bad combo! :P I do like Madelief though!

My cousin's daughters are Willamina (Willow for short) Hope, Daisy Lauren, and Meadow London. :P

Maybe if his name were Wolfgang it would be a little better...
