I'm surprised at how popular Alyssa is. I know a few my age (24), but I've never come across a small child with that name.

I'm surprised Ashley ranks so high!

Luckily none of my top favorites are in the top 20, although I do like Joseph, David, Ella, Emily and Mia.

I'm relieved none of my favorites are on there. I'm pretty shocked at Ashley though, I didn't know it was still so popular.

Ryan, since it is my SO's name and the middle name of our first son.
Alexander, my brother's name (and a name that I have always loved myself)
Noah is just awesome in itself.

Sophia is an awesome middle name
Hannah is my Oma's name, and one that we might use
Addison is fantastic unisex name
Chloe is always nice too.

Is there a link to the top 1000?

ETA: Also, can I presume that there are the top 100 US name, not the Canadian or Australian names?

Lots of names on there that I'm SICK of hearing, that's for sure.

For boys I like the classic ones on the list: Michael, Anthony, Daniel, Christopher, Joseph, David, James, John. Wow, I'm surprised to see John on there. That was my father's name and my brother's.

For girls I like: Elizabeth and Sarah. The others I'm sick to death of. Madison is like my most hated name of all time. Addison just sounds like a disease to me. Isabella is over used, so is Olivia, which is too bad, as they are pretty.

I'm not surprised Emma got the top spot...every other little girl born this year is or will be Emma Grace (or Ella Claire).

I'm sad to see Chloe on there. :( I plan to use it as a nickname for Clover in the future.
Also disappointed but not surprised to see Olivia and Sophia so high up on the list. My husband and I had those on our short list 2 years ago before we got married, but they've been knocked off since due to their rising popularity.

I'm surprised Aidan is all the way down at #16, but glad that none of my favorite boys names are in the top 20!

Jayden AND Aiden? Ehhh.

I'm surprised Olivia is that high. It may make me rethink it. And I didn't expect to see Addison but not Allison.

My first thought was I wonder how I did! (http://community.livejournal.com/baby_names/4087047.html?thread=69766919#t69766919)

I was dead wrong about Edward rising — which, to be honest, restores some iota of my faith in humanity (I like the name and all, but the Twilight thing seemed like a sure, sad thing). I was right about Brandon falling, although it didn't drop by as much as I thought it would.

I thought Ethan would drop — which it hasn't. On the other hand, it was the year it finally did NOT gain, either. Hrm.

I bolded the downward trend predictions I got right:
Riley, Devon, Alexis, Camron, Russell, Bryan, Mekhi, Terrance, Wilson, Johnathon, Zackery, Dylan, Jessie, Trevor

Aaaand the upward predictions:

Jaxon, Landyn, Grayson, Harrison, Ryder, Levi, Lukas, Rayan, Jasper, Mason, Maverick, Porter, Adrian, Paxton.

Yay!

... and I maintain that Tobin and/or Amon will hit the lists in the next five years.

PS, I'm surprised that Benjamin, Thomas, Nathan/Nathaniel aren't on that list! And girls, no Sara/h, Ann/e/a, Jane, Lucy, Molly?

How about Olive instead of Olivia? Or Livia?

On the list of the most extreme changes in popularity, the girls list cracks me up. So many of the names are taken from tv. :P

Khloe went from #665 to #196
Audrina went from #707 to #353
Jaslene went from #597 to #376
Miley went from #279 to #127

My kids' names (Lachlan and Siobhan) are never in the top 1000 in the US. Well, Siobhan was, once in the 80s, I think. But otherwise, nada.

How is Hazel doing? It's been a fave of mine forever, even before that celebrity I can't remember used it. I'm gonna go look...

congrats!

in some silly, irrational way I feel like the fact that everyone around me is having boys means that when I finally get pregnant I'll have a girl (my husband and i both want a girl sooooo badly!)

I was most interested in the boy's name Oliver, as opposed to Olivia. Mostly added to the list because my husband like Olivia but not Oliver, which reminds him of Oliver Twist. I'm not so attached to at, at least in part because are kids have a 0% chance of actually being olive-complexioned. :)

also, it makes me smile that there were 16 sets of twins born in 2008 named Alexander and Nicholas.
aww, Full House love!

I like Oliver, but hate the nickname Ollie. Ew ew ew.

I never thought of them as having anything to do with complexion. How funny.

Alexander and Sophia (but spelled Sofia) are the only ones on my list, so that's good.

I just finished writing a research paper on baby names earlier this week and obviously I had to talk about the "-aidan" names. I was so scared when I saw the 2008 list was finally up that Jayden might have slipped from 18, where it was when I finished my paper. I should have known better. So for once I am thankful for that awful, awful name's popularity.

Hahaha, I wonder if all of them were intentional. On one hand, that's really cute... on the other, a little pathetic.
