Asma is a fairly common Arabic name (Asma at BehindtheName (http://www.behindthename.com/name/asma).

But yeah, I agree with you that it's a little unfortunate in Western countries.

My first boyfriend was Egyptian, and he told me that when he moved into the neighborhood there was this other Egyptian girl in the neighborhood and her name was Pusi (poo-see), which meant something very beautiful, he told me (I don't remember) but was still an unfortunate name...

It always makes me wonder if names like Kevin or Jennifer are something horrible sounding in another language :P

I'm not fond of Nevaeh's cumbersome names, but at least she has plenty to choose from if she wants to go by something else--unlike her poor mother! I love the name Bonnie, it's just very odd to see it lumped in with...Nevaeh and Carlene.
