This or That: March Madness

I'm not sure why this is all gray, but it prob. has something to do with the fact that I suck at LJ 'cause I only use it to be a name nerd.  But in the spirit of March and having too much free time, I figured I'd put together a little competition for names!


I have compiled a list of popular names for different regions of the US based on name stats by state on the SSA website.  The East is names popular in New York, the South is represented by Texas, the West by California, and the Midwest by Illinois (I decided to go by the most populous states in each region rather than trying to pick states I thought were necessarily the most representative of a region's taste).  Obviously some names are popular in more than one region, but I think the names are distributed fairly well.  The competitions are in both a Men's and Women's division, of course!


In each region, the names are seeded by popularity; i.e., in match 1, Michael, the top boys' name for the east is facing off against Lucas, the 16th most popular name in that group. Next round, the winner of match 1 will face off against the winner of match 8, match 2 vs. match 7, etc, until we reach the final four! Please vote for one name for each pairing, even if you really love or really hate both names.  Also, as this is a March Madness game feel free to make predictions as to which names you think will win/reach the final four/whatever.
