[identity profile] erikalyn.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
So we were talking about names tonight and realized that our daughter's name is Stella and our dog's name is Nova, so we thought it might be a good idea to continue the space/celestial theme with this baby.

What are your favourite space/celestial related names for boys?

TIA!

Sterling is pretty nice, and I actually really like Galileo, but... I doubt I'd ever use it.

Sirius is a guilty pleasure.

I love your icon.

Yeah... Harry Potter sort of ruined it for me (even though Sirius was my favorite character) but I like to bring it up when my boyfriend and I are talking about baby names to see him cringe.

Ha, [livejournal.com profile] fuckyou_batman is an amaaaaazing place. And Sirius is my favorite character, too! (But I had a soft spot for astronomy way before HP, so that's not the only reason why I like it.)

I don't know how far out there you're willing to go, but Orion, Caelum, Aries, Draco, & Leo are all constellations and legit (or at least "used") names.

Whyyyy did I not know about this community before this? It's amazing!

Even better: the icons are all from (EPIC) badfics that you can find in the community. The "always have lube" one is my favorite. Six months later, it's still hilarious.

It may sound a little too Harry Potterish, but Sirius is my favourite, with Orion as a close second. Rigel and Regulus are not bad, and there are Castor and Pollux (though I'm not a fan of Pollux).

My high school art teacher's grandson's middle name is Mars.

-Here are some stars and constellations that I think could make good names. They vary from normal to a bit far out:
Altair
Arcturus
Caelum
Pavo
Rigel
Phoenix
Leo
Orion
-Stars and Constellations possibly unusable due to HP:
Draco
Sirius
Regulus
Scorpius

Meaning related names:
Artemis
Sky(e)
Astin
Sol

Thuban! It was once the north star and I believe it was the north star when the pyramids were erected (using it as a map) its the tail star of Draco and means basilisk or dragon in Arabic. lol, it was almost my son's middle name.

Vega was another pole star and will be again in a few years.

Izar, Lynx, Caelum (Means "The chisel"), Aquila (Latin for Eagle), Bootes (Greek for Herdsman), Crux (Cross), Corvus (also Latin for Raven/Crow), Cygnus (Also means Swan)

This page has quite a few http://www.twcac.org/Pronunciation/pronunciation%20guide.htm#Pronunciation%20Guide

I strongly dislike Sirius and Orion, I can recommend Leo and Mars (maybe short for Marsden?), and also Helios (sun in greek), which is a legit name in Greece.
I think Helios would work great with your last name, too :)

Can't say I'm a fan of any male spacey names. I did go to high school with a guy named Uranus, though. That was interesting.
