How are the names Moira and Aislinn pronounced? Is there more than one pronunciation for either of them, or just one right one? I've known a Moira and an Aislinn for awhile, so I always assumed that their names were pronounced the right way, but I've never heard their pronunciations anywhere else.

I'd imagine Moira is pronounced like... MOY (rhymes with boy) RA.

MOY-RA.

The other is... As-lynn. Or that's how I'd pronounce it.

I knew a girl named Moira: Muh-rye-uh. Not too much emphasis on the "muh", though :p

Mwar-uh and Ash-lin are how I'd say them.

There's a character on the L Word named Moira (Max, now, but was Moira) and it was pronounced Moy-Ra.

Generally Moira is MOY-ra (I remember this name from a character in the movie "Hook", actually!) and Maura is MOR-a (rhyming with my name, Laura). Sometimes it's even short for Maureen.

Moira I would pronounce MOY-ra. I have heard it pronounced MAW-ra too.

Aislinn was originally supposed to be pronounced Ash-ling, but I have mostly heard it pronounced Ash-lynn.

MOY-ra and ASH-lin, but I've heard ACE-lin, too.

I also know a girl named Moira who pronounces it "mor-AYE." I wouldn't consider that a traditional pronunciation at all. Pretty sure her mom didn't know how to say the name when she saw it written and came up with her own way of saying it.

Same here.

I love Aislinn, but if I want to use it, I have to spell it Ashlyn or Hubby won't let me.

I'd say Moira either MOR-uh or MOY-ruh. Aislinn is definitely pronounced ASH-lyn

The one Moira I ever knew was "muy-rah" or "moy-rah" I would probably pronounce Aislinn "Iceland"

if you look in the comments on each name on that site a lot of irish/scottish people comment how they are pronounced in their native countries which is very helpful
