I was just browsing my old LJ entries and came across a list of names I liked in May of 2006. I am shocked by how horrible they are, for the most part. They're TOTALLY unlike my current favorites.

Then, Girls:
Caprice
Jesica
Lei
BryceLynn
Kaigen
Halei
Diera (still like the SOUND of it, but wouldn't use it)
Harleigh
Lakota
Macayah
Ariana
Cadence
Claire Elizabeth Anne (the only name combination I'd picked, and also the only ones I still like enough to actually USE)

Now, Girls:
Claire
Violet
Katerina (Kate)
Nora
Madeline
Gretchen
Paige
Caroline
Pearl
Mae

Then, Boys:
Kerrigan
Jamison
Skylar
Thackery
Draekan

Now, Boys:
Benjamin
Lucas
Russell
Ward
Vincent
Douglas
Ethan
Owen

What are your then/now lists?

I remember I liked names like Jayden and Phoenix back in 2005, gah. Thank god I didn't have a baby that year.

I use to be insistent on naming my first daughter Lotus....

Of your then names I like Harleigh, Kerrigan, Skylar, and Thackery.

I like your now names a lot better though. Especially Violet and Owen.

LOL I once liked Cadence, too.

The crazy name that I always claimed I would use was Dagmar (oh, and it's a girl's name, which for some reason makes it seem 100x worse to people). I'm pretty sure I was at least mostly serious.

Now, five years later, my top choice for a girl's name was Eva until it got beat out by Maia/Maya (spelling undecided). Much more reasonable than Dagmar.

I believe Candle and Disney were on my list back then. I had the excuse of being 13 at the time, though, but it doesn't make me any less comforted. DX

Now, my top faves are Emeline and Lydia, among others.

BryceLynn made me laugh.

I used to love the name Maxi and Max back then, now I hate them.

lol at BryceLynn... you were way ahead of the trend!

My old lists consisted mostly of tv/movie/music names such as Dawson, Pacey Joshua (I was dead set on this one!), Mary Kate, Wyatt, Leo, Bailey, Claudia, Curtis, Selena, Damien, Blake, Brooke, Eric... I also liked trying to "invent" names... Kaitee, Kaileigh, Zaizyn, Jorjohn, Tifani.

Family names such as Kenny, James and Francis have been long-timers, as have Asher, Darcy, Lily, Isabella.

Now they are much more practical and simple.

How is Dagmar unreasonable? I find it about a hundred or so times more palatable than Cadence... or anything in the Maddie/Kaylie/Mackenzie realm.

All I know is that everyone thought I was crazy. :) I always thought it was a pretty name, and it was the name I chose for my character in a German soap opera I co-wrote and acted in (for a class). I also almost named a pet rat Dagmar, but she was more of a Waltraud, so I went with that.
I guess by "reasonable" I meant "accepted". But if it were between Dagmar or Maddie/Kaylie/Mackenzie, I would go with Dagmar 100% absolutely, hands down no contest. Mackenzie especially really irritates me.

I was SO SET on having 'Kailah' (Kayla) as a name when I was like, 17 haha. I wasn't planning on having a baby then but it was always fun to think of.

Now my favorites are Norah & Aubrey for girls. I never had a favorite boys name which is good, cos I'm having a girl ;)

My aunt's name was Pearl Josephine. Then she got it legally changed to Jaye.

My top choice of girl names right now is Mahala (ma-hay-la), after my mom. If/When I have a daughter, her nn will be Haylie.
