i know eva can be either/or, but ava and eva are different names to me.

Ava and Eva are two different names. So if you want it pronounced "Ay-vuh" or "Av-uh" I'd go with Ava. If you want it pronounced "Ee-vuh" I'd go with Eva.

so they're not really alternative spellings of one other..
