[identity profile] babyjess8.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
My cousin had a baby last week. Her other two are Zoie and Bridey (stlbrn).

The baby's name.... Hunter.

So that's ok... ish. Right?

Then I found out:
The last name also starts with 'H'.
Hunter is a girl.
Her middle name is Rubie.

What's (stlbrn) stand for?

Oh geez. Hunter is a passable name for a boy...but...wow. That sucks. Poor Hunter. Zoie got lucky, even with a stupid spelling.

I assume it means "stillborn."

I don't particularly like Hunter on a boy, but I don't mind it either.

I hate it for a girl.

I like Ruby, but to misspell the word to make it a kr8tvly spelled name is dumb.

Hunter Rubie is atrocious, in my opinion. :\

Ahhh.

This is why you should always write out the full word whenever possible.

I'm okay with Hunter for a girl. I don't love it, but I'd be okay with it.

Ruby I'm okay with, even with the awful spelling.

But Hunter + Rubie =/= ♥. D:

Yeah. I mean, typing three extra letters doesn't exactly take a lot of time, effort or thought.

I'm too stuck on Zoie to even care about Rubie.

Overall, I think I've met more girls than boys named Hunter. Not a fan of the creatively-spelled Ruby though.

Hunter for a girl...that makes me sad.
And "Zoie"? What the hell.

I love Hunter for a girl. If it were Ruby, it would be a really nice name. Rubie looks a little off, but the sound of it is really pretty to me.

Much to my disgust, I found out that Rubie actually ranked higher than Ruby in 2007.

Rubie (and Zoie, for that matter) looks weird. Hunter would be ok with Ruby, but I would still dislike it.

Yuck, yuck, and yuck.

Hunter to me is a boy name and always will be, and the misspelling of Ruby is exactly that, a misspelling. It's not 'creative,' it's not 'cute,' it's incorrect.

Oh, and everytime I see Zoie I want to say 'Zowie!'

I don't even want to know how Bridey was actually pronounced.

Well, to each their own, but Hunter strikes me as a masculine name.
