[identity profile] the-theorist.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I was watching home videos the other day and I found one from when I was 4 years old.  Apparently I was pretending that my name was... get this... McDora.  I have no IDEA where that came from.

My Mom said that before my brother was born (I was 3) I suggested that he be named either LampShade or Salamander.
As you can see, I was quite the expert namer as a child.

Anyone have stories like this?

I was three when we found out we'd be adopting my brother. Not biological. But still. When asked what I wanted to name him, I enthusiastically suggested Raisin Bran. Luckily my parents went with Adam, instead. Oh, preschool logic...

I have an aunt named Malissa and when I was two I couldn't say her name so I called her Sa (S-uh) And everyone still calls her that. And I had a friend when I was five named Nicolas and I called him Gus-Gus (Like the mouse from Cinderella)

Well, I don't have any siblings, but my best friend wanted to name her baby sister (my best friend was 4 and a half at the time) Red Rose in the Garden.

Apparently so!!! Seems I've grown out of it, at least. My daughter is -not- named after a food product. :-)

Oh yeah. My faves were Dur-Dur and Grilled Cheese Sandwich. When I was three I was convinced I would change my name to the latter when I grew up.

I referred to myself and made everyone call me Tralaina when I was 3 or 4. I have postcards that my Dad sent me when he was away for work that are addressed to Tralaina.

It was because of a character on the TV show Star Blazers (I'm showing my age here!). I found out much later that her name was actually spelt Treleina.

LampShade is so funny! My cousin Regina couldn't pronounce a lot of things when she was younger and she used to call a family friend, who we all called Aunt Sherry, Aunt Wee-Wee. Needless to say, people snickered when she yelled that in the grocery store!

My brother insisted on being called Peanuts for a while when he was about five.

Lots of my relatives couldn't pronounce my name - Kirsty - as little children, so I've been called Dirty, Turkey, Kirky...

Apparantly when I was three years old or so, I told my uncle that my name was 'Juli-go-anne'. lol. I don't know. So he called me that for the longest time. I didn't know why he did (I thought it was something he made up) until my mom told me why.

Also when I was a little kid, I used to call my Uncle Ken, Uncle King; and his son, my cousin Garrett, Carrot :P I thought that's what their names were! :P

My son is 3 and has often looked around the room (or where ever we are) and said, "Hey mama I have a name for the baby!"

So far we've had this list:

1. Bob The Builder
2. Wendy (From Bob the builder!)
3. Curtain
4. Housie (yes, housie, not just house)
5. Barney (he doesn't even watch Barney!)

I don't remember ever wanting to be named something other than my real name but when I was a child I loved The Little Mermaid and was so sure that my little brother was named after Prince Eric (my brothers second name is Eerik) but later realized that he couldn't have been name after him because the film was released the same year I was born and my brother was born two years after me.

My girlfriend wanted to name her little brother Greg (like from the wiggles) or Jesus. There is also a video right after he was born of her trying to convince her mum to name him Alexa (her name).
"Don't you think he looks more like a Mitch?"
"No mummy, he is Alexa. Mitch can be his second name."
Lol it's so cute.

When I was younger, I wanted to be called Maya cos I hated my name (I'm a Megan). My friends all called me Maya for months, until I got bored of it. I still love the name Maya now :D

I never had a chance to offer names for a sibling cos I'm an only child >_>

As a kid I used to sign everything EmilyO because that was my first name plus my last initial. Then I started calling myself "Emilio" to everyone, haha...

I also named my favorite doll Selery (as in the vegetable celery). I thought it was pretty much the coolest name ever.

"I'll name my little sister Lisa." Except the baby was a boy... I also referred to him as Charlie and Charles. Or I called him Alexander Michael (which is his actual name) or just Michael rather than plain old Alex (which, when it did come out was A-yex or Ax).
The kid i babysit calls his older sisters Hay-Hay (Haley) and La-La (Makayla). I get him to say it a lot because he changes his voice, especially with La-La. Cracks me up.
My cousin called his sister Aminda instead of Amanda, so she was Mindy for the first 20 years of her life. Suddenly she changed back to Amanda, but i feel weird calling her that...

I went through a phase when I insisted on being called 'mailbox'...totally random...unfortunately, my brother still remembers that as well and somehow manages to bring it up from time to time.

When my oldest son was just a wee one, there were quite a few things he couldn't say. One of them was my sister Crystal's name. He called her Uncle Tit Tit. If you yell that in a crowded room she'll still answer. lol.

I was about 5 when my mum was pregnant with my sister and at that time I was really sure that 'Judy' was THE PERFECT NAME for a little kid. She ended up being a Nathalie, which I like so much more :P

My cousin was about 4 when her mother was pregnant with her brother, and she INSISTED on naming him 'Big Bear'. So cute :P

My Sister's name is Deborah (nn Deb or Debbie), and I insisted on calling her Debers when I was a kid XD The name stuck and pretty much all my cousins and our nephews call her Debers haha

The 8 year old I babysit told me last night she wished she would have named her kitten "Detective". His name is Frankie, which I think is pretty random for a kid to name a cat lol
