[identity profile] autophoblamb.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Hi, I'm here with a question. I'm looking for some German boys names and I'm having a lot of trouble. I want something that you can tell is German but doesn't scream "English eez my second language!"
If it helps I like the name Barrett. How it's not too German but just German enough.
Sorry if my question is totally crazy and unanswerable :/

In high school, we had two foreign exchange students, Simon and Sebastian.

I like Dietrich and Felix the most of all, probably.

I thought Barrett was an English name (?). I never encountered it when I was in Germany.

Names I remember from German exchange trip in high school (a lot of these have different pronunciations in German):

Alexander
Andreas
Bastian
Emil
Florian
Jan
Jens
Jonathan
Karsten
Konstantin
Kristoffer
Leon
Lukas
Mario
Niklas
Thomas
Tobias
Torsten
Wolfgang (someone's host father... I unfortunately didn't meet any young people named Wolfgang)

I'm glad =) I am planning on using Felix, for sure, and maybe Dietrich if I can ever find a name it goes with.

Lol.

I honestly don't like German names much at all, but some that I think sound ok are:

Klaus
Dietrich
Gustav
Johann(es) (nickname Hans or Jan)
Hendrik
Henrik
Jakob (pronounced ya-kob)
Karl
Caspar
Kurt
Otto
Torsten (this is probably my favorite)
Alaric (maybe tied for favorite...)
Torben
Ulrich
Wilhelm (have a soft spot for this one because it's my best friend's last name)
Willem

I have a son named Dietrich. I've got German and Austrian in me (among other things), my husband has some German, but we've got an Irish last name. so I don't think anything would scream "english is my second language" here. :)

I had a 3rd cousin named Wolfgang. he'd be 32 if he'd lived. he was born in Germany but grew up in the states.

Amazing names. Emil is my number one boys name. I also love Bastian, Florian, Jan and Jens.

Hrm, the closest way I could explain it would be Deet-rick. =)
