Dex as a name on its own - yay or nay?

A resounding nay. Dexter or nothing.

it's a nickname for the drug people drink in cough syrup to get high.

It's not enough for a name. As a nickname for Dexter it's fine, but not as a full name.

Nay. Dexter as the full name, Dex as the nickname.

I think I'm the baby name devil's advocate, but I don't see why it can't be a name on it's own if you like it. *shrug*

Nay. Way nay. It's a nickname, not a full name, to me.

Edit: As an aside, I love your name ;)

I think it's ok - but I seem to be the minority.

I wouldn't choose it for my kid, but I think it's fine as a name.

Isn't that the name of the phonebook guy who sits inside the cupboards on the commercials until someone opens it and asks him a question?

Because maybe someone else's opinion of a "full sounding name" isn't the same as the parents, who will name him, or the child, who's name it will be. I think people become their names. I know people who were named shortened versions of what others consider "full sounding names", and they are very adament that their names are their names, not the elongated version.

i've never heard of anyone calling dxm "dex". either way, it's not like he's naming the baby "coke" or anything. haha. i doubt many people would immediately think "cough syrup"

One of Dana Carvey's sons is named Dex. Just Dex, as far as I have heard.

Just in case you have no idea who Dana Carvey is - he's from SNL and is Garth on Wayne's World.
