[identity profile] poohbaby.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

I met a lady yesterday with 2 kids and one on the way.
She had 2 sons (ages 3 and 5) and a boy on the way (due in a  couple of weeks!). Anyway, the names of the kids...

Chevy and Ford.

I asked if she had a name chosen for baby #3. She said her and her husband were still trying to decide between Dodge and Lincoln.

Seriously???

I guess it could be worse, like, Toyota, Nissan, aor Mitsubishi?

I think the names Chevy and Ford *could* be cute but it's a bit much (imo) to name your kids after automobiles. I was in shock and didn't ask middle names. I'm hoping they have classic middle names though.

lol...if I HAD to name my kids after cars, I would choose like Lexus and Mercedes, as tacky as that sounds. I still love my Toyota in real life, though. :)

I actually like the name Mercedes, as a matter of fact. But I think it's overkill to name ALL your kids after American cars. Their middle names are probably like Sedan and Van. :X

Haha Ford & Chevy? That would be me & my S/O's names for our kids if we were that demented. I'm all for Ford & he's all Chevy. But, really...what is wrong with people? Don't they caer about what their kids are going to put up with in school.

Oh gods, WHY.

People seem to forget that babies grow up to be adult human beings. Novelty names aren't so cute when you're over the age of 10.

And ditto on the icon love. <3

I LOVE the name Mercedes, but wouldn't use it because of the car. :(

Am I the only person who thinks these names sound stupid on babies too?

PS I like Portia, too, but wouldn't want anyone to confuse it with Porsche. Stupid cars, taking all the good names.
Not that Ford is a good name... lol.

I really like the name Ford and I don't know why... All my senses tell me it's a stupid name and I ought to hate it, but I can't!

I actually love the name Ford, and while I work in the car business, it's not connected to that, or the faithful little Focus I drive.

I hate matchy names, though, and can't imagine Chevy on anyone but Mr. Chase. Lincoln's not bad, but still.

My manager, a racing enthusiast, recently told me that he wants to have a daughter so he can name her McLaren. His wife tried to talk him into Clare or Clara, but he is adamant.

Car associations aside, I think Dodge goes better with the sib set.

She may also have been joking with you, as in "it's none of your business what we're naming our child"...

Hahaha did anyone read the Ramona books? Ramona's doll was named Chevrolet, that was pretty cute. FOR A FICTIONAL DOLL, NOT AN ACTUAL PERSON.

Oh, absolutely not.

I know a Lincoln (b) and a Bentley (g), both named after the cars. I think these names are sooooo tacky and they are not even sibs. Naming your kids Ford and Chevy is silly. What if they have girls? Edsel? Limo? Jeep? Crazy.

Haha, I kind of like Ford, but only in a creepy dystopian sort of way. Together they are absolutely ridiculous, like the parents were naming pugs or guinea pigs or something and forgot they were naming real people.

And *why* would you name a new baby that in the recession? Now they've been given fair warning those companies might go under...

Yes, I was thinking the same thing too! And even the doll gets teased for it's name!

I would totally name my babies after cars, but only domestic for sure. ;)

Eh, I like Ford, but because of "Brave New World"...

and I've known several Lincolns' none named after the car...

But Chevy? ugh

I know a family who are all named after kinds of tractors. Fortunately, they are also all names (John, Oliver, Casey, Minnie), but still.

I also read a birth announcement in my local paper... it went something along the lines of...

"Jill and Joe welcome with love their son Holden, a baby brother for Ford, Harley and Shelby."

My first thought was that people should stop sniffing petrol fumes...

Now if they really wanted to be classy, they could name another child Aston Martin.

You know, they might not be so bad if they weren't siblings. When I see Chevy by itself, I think of the car first, but I also see Chevy Chase. Ford is kinda meh, but it's not as bad as some names out there. But put them together, especially with Lincoln or Dodge...WTF!

It is funny but at least they are normal names (especially if she chooses Lincoln). Chevy is actually a popular girl's nickname where I live and is short for Yocheved.
