WDYT of Esmeralda?

For some reason, my boyfriend loves the name. He's not Spanish, nor does he have an affinity for Hunchback of Notre Dame. He likes the variances in sound, I guess. I'm a bit torn, 'cuz the more I say it, the more I like it. Just all I can think of is "gypsy".

All I can think of is "Hunchback," though the name is pretty. I'd use it as a middle name.

I actually love it, but that's to be expected from a Disney & Victor Hugo freak :P If you're torn though, what about Esme? Equally as beautiful in my eyes :)

I'm a huge Disney fan, but I don't know if I'd name my daughter Esmeralda. Especially since my last name would be Martens. I don't know! I LOVELOVELOVE Anastasia, even though the whole "wicked stepsister" thing.

I was actually considering Esmeralda (well, it was a name on a VERY long list anyway lol) so I know where you're coming from... but I ended up changing it to Esme. Anastasia is very pretty :)

I hate it. It's not even just that it's kind of so obviously Spanish, and so obviously from the Hunchback of Notre Dame. I don't like how it looks or sounds. Maybe for a princess.

It reminds me a gypsy. It would wind up being one of those names that all the mothers at the school say "Who the hell named their kid that?".

It's just a bit too ... much for me. I feel the same way about Anastasia actually - I think it's a pretty sound, but on an actual child I think it's just a bit too precious.

This was my all-time favorite name when I was a kid. I sill think it's pretty, though perhaps a bit flouncy - I'd pair it with something really simple like Joan or Anne.

I actually like it, though all I can think of when I say it is "Gypsy" too. but you could call her Esme for short.
