It seems as though every one of my younger brother's childhood friends (including my brother) has had a baby in the past two years. Another one was born recently, and her name is Tessa Faith. There has also been: Vincent Aurelius Maxwell (my nephew!), JoLee Renee, Kali Elizabeth, Isaac Douglas, Cadence Renee, and Amberlyn & Savannah (sisters; I don't know their middles).

Another childhood friend from the same group is due in March with a boy, and so far she likes Zane or Zeke. My mom exclaimed "In-Zane in the membrane!" So I think that one is out. My friend's mom wants to name him Jackson, which my mom and aunt vetoed because my brother is named Jack and had some pretty horrible nicknames. What names would you suggest to her? Nymbler wasn't giving me very good ideas (Nimrod?! Bubba!?)

The only name I really like out of the first list is Vincent Aurelius Maxwell.

I've always liked the name Zane. Zeke sounds more like a pet name than anything else to me. (But I'm a bit biased. It's my dachshund's name.)

I really like Zeke quite a bit, but to me it is more of a nickname than a name. I'm not sure what the longer name would be, but Zeke seems very nickname-y.

Sounds like your friend likes shorter names. What about:

Nate (Nathaniel)
Ezra
Zac (Zachary or Zachariah)
Finn
Jake (Jacob)
Reid
Gage

Those are all just off the top of my head so I don't know if any work.

Dachshunds! The loves of my life. And thanks, Prince Vince does have a pretty swanky name compared to his peers.

I like Zane too, it seems kind of cuddly and minimal. My mom can be pretty irrational and bossy when it comes to names (you should've heard her when I suggested Felix as a name before Vincent was born!)

The full name for Zeke is Ezekiel, but I'm guessing that she thinks it is too cumbersome.

i actually really like the name Zane. My friend has a little cousin who is about 3 and is cuter than a bugs ear (what does that even mean?) named Zane Alexander.

Amberlyn is hideous. JoLee would be fine if it were Jolie. Is Kali pronounced like Kaylee? Cute name, but because there's no decent way to spell it (Kaylee? Ceile? Caleigh? All hopeless!) , and because she'll outgrow it before she's 13, it's not a good name choice at all. Isaac Douglas is nice. Vincent Aurelius Maxwell is so kickass and classy.

I hate to say it, it goes against everything I believe in, because I try to not like trendy names, but I like Cadence Renee and Savannah. I think that Savannah is just so pretty.

Zeke just doesn't seem like a name to me. Zane makes me think of Titanic and Billy Zane. I'd go for either of them over Jackson though, Jackson is so bad. For your friend, I would suggest:

Thanks for the suggestions. I think Levi might strike a chord with her. JoLee was a mishmash of the father's name (Josh) and the mother's name (April Leeanne), but I agree Jolie is way better. I'm not sure how they pronounced Kali since I've only seen it written down, but it is a tricky name to spell. I grew up with a Kaeli and a Ceilidh so I'm partial to those spellings.
