Two names that I have seen in the past couple of days:

Shawnesty
Jacinta

WDYT? I've only seen them written, so I don't know for sure whether they're boys or girls, but I think that Jacinta is a girl.

Also, how is Gaius pronounced? I've seen it on an actor from Friday Night Lights, but I've never heard it said. He has said that he likes it because it's quite unique.

Gaius is a Latin name, originally pronounced GAH-yoos.
Jacinta is a girl's name, in italian it's spelled Giacinta, pronounced Jah-CHEEN-tah

At my office we have a Shaunessy, which is a female and pronounced almost the same so I'm thinking Shawnesty is a female, either way it's nasty.

Jacinta is a common name where I live.

I heard Scott Porter pronounce Gaius on the season 2 DVDs and I'm pretty sure he said Gay-us. I'll have to check (my sister has my DVDs though!)

Haven't you ever seen Battlestar Galactica? There's a character named Gaius on there, and it's pronounced GUY-US. I really like it, but the character isn't really a nice guy, so keep that in mind too.

i've heard of a Jacinda with a D... she's an actress whose been in Ladder 49 and The Namesake. She's married to Gabriel Macht of The Spirit.

Yes, that is how my Italian friend prn it when with her family. Usually it's pronounced Juh-sin-tah here in Australia

Ah no, haha, I have never seen Battlestar Galactica. Doesn't really interest me too much. I guess it's a good thing then, because Gaius Charles (the actor from Friday Night Lights) has given me a good idea about it; the Gaius on your show might make me have a bad one.

I don't like the name very much, but I suppose Jacinto, the male version, it's much worse, at least if you're born in a Portuguese language country. It rhymes with 'pinto', which means chick, but is also a slang for 'penis'. And 'Jacinto Pinto' sounds like "I feel my penis". Can you imagine?

Shawnesty is not a name I care for at all, but I think Jacinta is lovely in Spanish.
I'd pronounce Gaius as "GUY-us". It's kind of cool. I love Caius and Gaia, so it makes sense that this would appeal to me as well.

Jacinta is most known as a Catholic saint -- she's one of the three children who witnessed the miracles at Fatima (http://www.americancatholic.org/Features/SaintOfDay/default.asp?id=1297) in the early 20th century.

yeah, Gaius on BSG isn't exactly a good role model, but the name is still very fresh and unique. :)
