Last night I went with a friend of mine to his transgender support group. Neither of us had ever been before. Those present ranged in age from mid-twenties to upwards of fifty. Here are the names I can remember:

Charlene
Danielle
Michelle
Kim
Cameron
Ruin (m)
Darcy
P.J. (m)

I'm not sure how many of those names were original choices, or variations of old names. Charlie --> Charlene. Daniel --> Danielle. You get the idea.

If you were to change your gender, which name would you choose for yourself?

My name is gender neutral, so I'd probably just keep it.

My name has a male and a female version, but the male version (which is the one my name is) is used for both M and F - so I'd keep my name too.

My cousin changed genders. She went from Raymond to Rachel, nn Ray for both.

My name has a male form (Viktor), but personally, I don't like it. If I was to change my gender, I'd change my name to Yuriy.

as a variation of my own name : Amy I might have to go for Amir, I could still go by the nn Aim that way and it would still only be two syllables so I would have an easy time responding to it.

If it was just anything maybe....wow i dont know, how about Vaughn

Part of me thinks that I might go with Susan if I were a boy, just so I could keep seeing that look of bafflement that I've grown so used to..

In all honesty though, I'd probably pick a differnt boys name, because I've never really liked Steve and, weird though this will sound, it feels like a girl name to me...

There's not really a masculine form of my name - Megan - but I might go to Morgan because it's similar in sound and I think I could get used to responding to it. Plus, I like Morgan as a guy's name. And my middle name would probably go from Michele to Michael. Morgan Michael. Lol.

I would go with Nicholas because my parents wanted to name me that if I were a boy, and my name right now is somewhat similar (Natasha).

I have friends that call me Jer or Jerry sometimes, so I'd probably keep my own, feminine name (it's just too much of me, I can't give it up), and always go by one of those.

I'm so ridiculously femme that it's hard to think of any male name feeling right.

Maybe Sidney.

My mom used to tell me that the male version of Jessica (my name) is Jesus, but I'm not sure I've ever believed it.
If I had to rename myself as a male, I'd choose Taylor.
Both because it's gender neutral and it's after a male inspiring character (Taylor Hanson)
Not fond of the meaning, but I really like how it sounds.

I might go with Leo...there's a story about how my due date was the birthday of my (mildly insane) great-uncle Leo, and my parents were worried I was going to be a reincarnation or sthg (especially after my cousin was born on his wife's bday a few months earlier). So yeah, I like the name and my family would be very WTF?, although to their credit they have been very tolerant of my name changing thus far.

I could also go with Laurence, which isn't horrible (but isn't great), then I could keep going by Laurie if I wanted to.

Good question! Whittier could shift pretty easily to Whitney (which is gender-neutral in the end), and would let me keep my nickname of Whit.

Jessica is the feminine form of Jesse. I forget if the names Jesse and Jesus are related.

Being a Jessica, I could easily switch to Jesse. However, I'm not overly fond of it. I'd be happy to stay a Jess, though.

I'm uber girly so I'd probably want something more gender neutral rather than something really masculine.

For easiness, I'd probably go with Luca (I couldn't imagine myself Lucian(o), Lucius, Lucas or Luke). I feel like Tavish would fit me too, though.

I guess I'd go with Julian; enough people call me that when they see my name written down on paper as it is!

My name is Karlie, but I would definitely not be a Karl if I were to change gender (which I don't plan on doing, haha). I'd go with my favorite boys' name, Jason.

Frank. I think it fits me better than my real name!

I might just go from Lauren to Loren. If I didn't do that, I might go with Tiernan. My roommate Kendra says she would probably switch to Ken even though she doesn't really like it much. It's something some of her friends call her. If not Ken, she would probably use Rhys.
