OK, the winners!
Boy: James
Girl: Elizabeth

Any thoughts that haven't been shared already? So far it seems that some of you love them, some of you hate them and some of you think they're boring (not that different from any other names posted really). Do you think they were the best of the original list?

Personally, I do like James a lot but would only use it as a middle because I have a cousin with that name, and my family has enough people with the same name already!

Elizabeth I think is fine, but I doubt I'd use it. Catherine I do like, although I would be more likely to use Katherine or another related name rather than Catherine itself (The C spelling was my grandmother's name, it's also the middle name of one of my cousins so that's why I used that spelling on the list).

FWIW, my favourites for girls are Lucy (have loved this name since I was a kid and would use it without hesitation) and probably some form of Catherine...basically they are all in the running except Kathleen! For boys I would be most likely to use Alexander or Felix for an actual kid, but I also LOVE Marcus and Adam, they just would sound bad with my surname. Probably just as well that I'm unlikely to be naming anything but cats, so it's all good.

James would have been my #2 from the boy list; Leo would have been #1. I would be more likely to use James (nn Jamie), but I adore the name Leo.

Elizabeth was my pick from the girls list. I don't plan on using it, but I would if my SO was set on it. I like Eliza or Ellie as a nickname.

I like them both, Elizabeth more than James. They're not my favourite names ever, but they're both solid.

After the first round, I didn't like any of the girls names left. James is really nice, just a nice, strong classic name, but I didn't vote for it the first time around; I picked Francis instead. My favourites from the original list were Lucy, and probably Alexander.

I think James and Elizabeth are fine, but neither excites me very much.
I missed the first round, so I went back to check and there are so many names that I really love from the lists. Leo and Lucy (which I can't use) are my favourites but I don't necessarily think they're better than James or Elizabeth, they're just more to my taste.

James is a name that my SO and I are definitely using if we have a son. It's both of our favorites, so I'm pleased that it did so well.

Elizabeth is okay but I don't think I'd ever use it.

I think it's interesting that what we boiled down to are names that are perennially popular, that don't have any date, age or social class overtones hanging on them.

Adam is my favorite boys' name, and Anneliese is my favorite from the girls'. But I like Catherine and most girls' variants of that.

Elizabeth and James...they're so common and they are kind of plain. I like Elizabeth but likely I would only use it as a middle name. I prefer Eliza, actually. James is okay, but I have a cousin named James so likely I wouldn't name any child of mine James.
