I know that "Jared" is a biblical name as well...

One of my best friends names from back in middle school... plus a beautiful name.

The way I see it, place names are so popular now days, I don't see why biblical place names would be excluded. I mean, we've heard of kids called Mecca and that's an Islamic religious placename!

I like Jordan too, in reference to the River Jordan, but Jordan is waaaaaay too trendy for me.

Oh, and I think Eden is beautiful. I know a little girl named Eden.

Looks like Biblical place Names could be a category themselves.

I like Judith, Susanna, Esther, and Tabitha. Also Veronica, the woman who wiped Jesus' face. And Martha. Although I'd never use that.

I have some friends who are contemplating the name Sarai for their daughter. It was Abraham's wife's name.

my boy had a friend growing up named sephra, which ive always thought was a fabulous name, and is biblical. asher is biblical too.

here are the ones i like from your list:
eve, noah, abraham, luke, isaac, moses, gideon, judah, jesse, eli, elijah, hannah, jonah, micah, daniel (my boys name), esther, ezra, gabriel, mary, and simon. i like canaan as a name too, for what its worth, but there are several towns near where i live called canaan (or old canaan, or new canaan) so it would be wierd.

Shiloh would be a name you'd probably want to avoid, though, thanks to the Battle of Shiloh (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_Of_Shiloh).

Names from the list that I could never use, thanks to Veronica Mars: Abel (as in Abel Koontz, guy-framed-for-murdering-Lilly-who-then-died-of-cancer-or-something); Aaron (as in Aaron Echolls, creepy movie star); and Eli (as in Eli "Weevil" Navarro, bad-ass biker dude who is awesome, but I always think "Eli" in the same tone of voice that Keith does, and then I expect a "Sheriff" response).

Names I like, ignoring the stories behind the names for a sec:
Sarah
Isaac
Jacob
Benjamin
Gideon
Delilah
Jesse
Hannah
Daniel
Gabriel
Peter
Andrew
James
Matthew
Philip
Thaddaeus
Luke

I tend towards the normal side of naming, although I have a bizarre love of the name Thaddeus that I seriously cannot explain.

its a hebrew name (as is the uber popular hannah, which most people dont realize). asher was the eighth son of jacob.

i am not jewish, but my boy is, and i really like to honor heritage. hannah and asher have been my two favorite names for so long, i just hate how popular they are / are getting, so ill probably never use them, unfortunately.

I didn't see Malachi on the list (then again, I just skimmed), but that name is my current obsession. I love it. I also love Noah, and plan on naming a son Noah.

Rachel seems to have been quite popular in the 80s. That's my name and I've met tons of other Rachels.

I would never, ever name a child Cain. There's a reason that name isn't popular.

Gabriel and Andrew are my absolute favourite male names at the moment. But I like Biblical names in general. :)

Heh, see, I just cannot get past the story behind the name. Most of my family picked names for their kids based on the story behind them, whether they were saints or Biblical names. Like, my mother really likes St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton and St. Michael, so there's my brother's and my middle names.

I'm sure it's not a guaranteed trip to hell. :) It's just too negative an association for me to even consider the name. I wouldn't want my son asking me why I named him after the first murderer, because you can bet my (hypothetical future) children will be reading the Bible. ^^

chava seems really pretty. how is it pronounced? your explanation doesnt really tell me, because ive heard chanukah pronounced with a silent c and with a ch sound, albeit rarely. so is it like, hava?

my boy is jewish, although im not, and we sort of have an issue with using the name elijah as well, as much as we really like eli. im intrigued.

yes, it's like "hava" =D isn't it gorgeous?

i adore the name elijah but he's just too important of a person in jewish history and spirituality for me to name my own son elijah. i have nothing against other people using it, i just don't feel right using it myself.

thanks for the clarification, yes i do indeed love it! :)

i/we feel the same way about the name elijah, yes.
