[identity profile] sarahness.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
So I found out on Wednesday that I'm expecting a little baby girl!

I was in love with the name Anna, but now I'm not so sure after talking to my family/boyfriend about it. They don't really like it as much as I do. I haven't given up total hope of having an Anna, but I have been expanding my horizons.

The middle name will MOST LIKELY be Marie (my mother's middle name).

Here are some (other) names I'm considering. Tell me your honest opinions. I don't want to name my daughter something atrocious just because people are too polite to tell me the name sucks!

Elizabeth Marie Van Scoyoc (nn Ellie)
Catherine Marie Van Scoyoc (nn Cate or Catie- not sure on this spelling though)
Ivy Marie Van Scoyoc
Lillian Marie Van Scoyoc
Caroline Marie Van Scoyoc
Adrienne Marie Van Scoyoc
Amelia Marie Van Scoyoc
Violet Marie Van Scoyoc (too many V's??)

Also, if you have any suggestions (as you can tell, I'm mostly into classic names), please let me know! Pregnancy is eating my brains!

I love Ivy and Lillian the most. Out of those two I'd probably choose Lillian. :)

Anna is pretty plain name in my opinion... especially when coupled with Marie.

I like the nn Ellie, but am not a big fan of Elizabeth. I like Elenor, Elena, Eliza, Emily, Ellen...something a little less "common" maybe?

I like Catherine a lot...with Cate as a nn.

Not crazy about Ivy at all.

I LOVE Lillian Marie! I also love Caroline and Amelia. Adrienne Marie is just kind of "blah." I feel the same about Anna Marie. I think if Marie is going to be the MN, the first name needs to kind of shine a little more. :)

I actually like Ivy. It was on my list with my daughter, but we went with Eva. I like classic names and I don't think you could go wrong with any of them. I like Cate and Ellie as nn's. Violet is running high for another girl and Amelie would be my son's name if he had been a girl. I think Lillian is my least favorite.

Nice names all around, though.

Congrats!

Elizabeth Marie Van Scoyoc (nn Ellie) - A little too blah for me, but nice.
Catherine Marie Van Scoyoc (nn Cate or Catie - not sure on this spelling though) - Again, blah. And I don't like Cate with a C.
Ivy Marie Van Scoyoc - Love it.
Lillian Marie Van Scoyoc - Eh.
Caroline Marie Van Scoyoc - Nice!
Adrienne Marie Van Scoyoc - LOVE it.
Amelia Marie Van Scoyoc - Nice!
Violet Marie Van Scoyoc (too many V's??) - Nice. Very authorish.

What do you think of the name Evangeline? I think Evangeline Marie Van Scoyoc would be a lovely name.

Also,
As someone with one of the most popular names of her generation (Nicole) I'd suggest not going with something really common. It's annoying to be just one of many. For example, I love the name Lillian, and have a niece with that name, but the name is quite popular now, so I wouldn't choose it. Amelia has always been one of my favorite names (nickname: Lia, or Mimi) but everyone always responds, "Like Amelia Bedelia?" No one seems to like it but me (and now you!) But none of your names are bad choices, and that includes Anna.

I like Violet Marie and Caroline Marie best.

I love the name Amelia but don't think it sounds good with Marie. Too many Ms maybe.

I'm a middle name Marie, myself, and I love it. And as unhelpful as this is, I absolutely love all of your name ideas (except Amelia, a name I've never really taken to). I think you're right that Violet, when coupled with the last name, is too many V's. If I had to choose one from the list as a favorite, it would be Ivy Marie.

Funny enough you have both of my nieces names on your list. Elizabeth Marie and Catherine Marie... we called Elizabeth by her full name and Catherine is Cate. (I prefer Cate over Kate anyday) I am a Marie and so are both of my sisters, and my mom... so Marie as a middle name is a family thing.

I like Anna it is pretty - but it does make me think that Anna Marie should be one name. What about names like:
Audrey Marie
Evelyn Marie
Rose Marie
Charlotte Marie
Gabriel Marie (nn Gabbi)
Molly Marie (yeah their is alliteration but it isn't terrible... haha)

I am sure if you google "classic baby names" or "traditional baby names" you will get a ton.

How about Annabelle? It's a classic name and you could use the nicknames Anna AND Ellie! :) Annabelle is one of my top names. I like Anna too, but could never name a daughter that. My mom's name is Ann (middle name Marie!) and my boyfriend's ex is Anna, so that kind of rules it out...

Congrats!

FWIW, I really like Anna. It's been growing on me a lot lately (but it can't really make my own list for a variety of reasons).

I think my favorites of your other choices are Catherine, Caroline, Amelia, and Violet. Actually, I don't really dislike any of the others either, but I don't like them quite as much.

You mentioned a concern that the Violet combination has too many v's, but I think Violet Van Scoyoc sounds snappy, and I'd actually be more worried about Ivy. With Violet, the "v" sounds are separated enough that it sounds ok, but Ivy Van Scoyoc...well, try saying it out loud. Those first two v's kind of run together.

If you don't care about popularity, this doesn't really matter, but all of the Lily variations have become very trendy lately, and I would be hesitant to use one of them right now for that reason.

My last comment is that with the rise in popularity of the boys' name Adrian, Adrienne has come to seem less feminine to me, so that would bother me. But that's just a taste thing, really, so it all depends on how you feel about it.

Since you really like Anna but others aren't sold on it, you could pick a name that has Anna as a nickname. That way everyone gets their way:)

My daughter is named Anastasia, but goes by Ana for short.

The only one I don't like is Ivy, and that's only because the name would be the same as the initials (I.V.)

I like all of these, really, but my favorites are Elizabeth nn Ellie, Caroline, Adrienne, and Violet.

Honestly, I think that Marie is one of the most overdone middle names ever. It's good that you do have a meaning with it, but it's really taken off as being a filler middle name.

I think that Catherine (though I prefer Catharine), Caroline, Adrienne and Violet are very, very pretty names. Anna's pretty too, I like it for the same reason that I like Mary, it's just so nice and sweet. Anna Marie would be just too bland for my liking.

Lily/Lilly/Lillian/Lilith are all very high on my least favourite names list. So, no. Amelia seems to be getting really popular to me, which I don't really like. Elizabeth and Ivy just really aren't my style, but Ivy just sounds like an old woman to me.

Anna's been my favourite girl name for awhile now. I think it's becoming pretty popular though. Which makes sense because it's pretty similar to Emma/Ava which are both really popular right now. I still like it though. =]

Anna Marie seems like one of those Emma Leigh or Brook Lynn names to me because I have a friend named Annamarie so I feel like it should be one name. That's just me though. lol.

From the rest of your names I really like Amelia but Amelia Marie sounds like too many 'm's to me.

I like the rest of your choices, I think Cate/Catie is my favourite.

I like the name Anna. It's pretty.

I wouldn't suggest Amela Marie either, too many 'm's like the person above said.

How about Alison Marie? ♥

Elizabeth Marie Van Scoyoc (nn Ellie) - nice
Catherine Marie Van Scoyoc (nn Cate or Catie- not sure on this spelling though) - love it, but prefer spelling Katharine
Ivy Marie Van Scoyoc - nice
Lillian Marie Van Scoyoc - very nice!
Caroline Marie Van Scoyoc - like it
Adrienne Marie Van Scoyoc - dislike Adrienne because of a bad association
Amelia Marie Van Scoyoc - very nice!
Violet Marie Van Scoyoc (too many V's??) - very nice!

I love the name Violet, but I do think the double V would be a little repetitive. And it would really stand out because V's not such a commonly used letter. I'd go with Lillian Marie - I think that's really beautiful and will work at any age.

oh, wow, you've got some lovely names there!
i definitely like the others better than anna, and i'm not a big fan of adrienne. out of what you've got, i think my favourite is ivy, but lillian is a close second. amelia marie kind of runs together in my opinion, and while violet is a lovely name, the v's are a little much.
:) congrats!

I don't think there's anything wrong with any of them. I love Amelia but I'm not convinced about Amelia Marie - would it be better as Marie Amelia? I'm not a huge fan of Ivy or Violet. I think my favourite would be Catherine, though I'd probably spell it Katharine.

Congrats with your daughter! :)

I don't like Ivy Marie or Amelia Marie, not really my style. The rest of the names are okay, although they're not something I'd use. Oh, and I'd spell Lilian with only one 'l'.

What do you think about Arianne Marie or Alysha Marie? These are the two names for girls that I'm into the most at the moment. I also really really love Justine, but I don't think I'd pair it with Marie.

Ooh, congrats! How exciting =).

I really love the name Anna, but it's nicer to have a name you both like!

I think all your names are good names, my favorites being Adrienne & Lillian. Violet is pretty too, but it's getting more popular. And maybe it's just me, but I hate how it sounds so much like 'violent'.

As for suggestions: Sophia, Juliet, Aurelia and Annabeth came to mind, although I'm not sure the latter would be so great considering your boyfriend isn't that into Anna ;).

I like Anna Marie (but maybe that's because my mom is/was Anna Maria).

I also like (best):
Elizabeth Marie
Lillian Marie

I have liked the name Anna for a while, and it was my favourite for a while too. My husband's not huge on it though, and I am starting to see it slip down my list unfortunately :(

I love your names. They're lovely classic names. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

yeah real life people are always good tools... haha. but then you look at some real life baby names and smack your face.

I like classy more traditional names so I really do not think that you will go wrong with any of them. And really they never go out of style unlike some of the Aidens, Jaydens, and Caydens that are floating around.
