[identity profile] kaoriz.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
If this has been posted before, I apologize in advance. So, I watch The Secret Life of the American Teenager (which is a bit like watching a train-wreck in slow motion) and one of the actresses names is Francia Raisa (she plays Adrian). Her sisters' names? Irlanda and Italia.

Yes. Their names are France, Ireland, and Italy.

...discuss.

Maybe each was conceived in her namesake country...

IMO naming kids after countries is very rarely not cheesy. 3 sisters named after countries is effing terrible lol.

At least please tell me they're of italian descent.. names of countries, I can take (although on a sibset of 3, that's a little too much), but to borrow them from another language just makes it all too confusing!!

Their last name is Almendárez and they are Hispanic. Raisa is her middle name. I think Italia is the worst :/

Yeah, I've never heard a country name I liked, including India.

The sad thing is, Raisa is such a pretty name. They could've just named her Raisa!

those are all in Spanish as far as i can recall so given their heritage that part is not so strange- still find the general naming indefensible

I live in Italy and the names are all italian, but it hadn't occurred to me that they all might be the same in spanish.

funny thing is, Italia used to be a legit name in Italy (and Italia is Italy in Italian)

All together, it's really not good. Plus, France and Italy don't really seem like they work as actual names. Ireland is actually a name that I love, though.

Hm...I don't like them, and together they're even worse.

I once read a book called Irlanda & Natalia though, and I really liked it...so I don't mind Irlanda all that much.
