I am still TTC (month 5, negative).

But what do you think of the girls name Skylar?

I think it's very pretty, though it's becoming increasingly popular. If you like it, though, that shouldn't put you off :)

It's kind of tacky sounding. And I have a very difficult time picturing that name on an adult woman who isn't a stripper.

Same. I picture a slut when I hear the name. :D

I know two adults with the name who are NOT strippers :)

And I'm sure there are plenty of others. However, the question was "what do you think of the name Skylar?" and like several other names: Heaven, Honey, Ginger, Princess, etc. the first thing that comes to mind is a Stripper. For many people. I doubt that's what the OP wants her daughter's name to give as a first impression.

OMG YES. And Barbie, too. Barb is fine. Barbie makes me think of a stupid bimbo with big boobs.

It reminds me of a kr8tv take on Tyler, even though I know it's not.

I don't like it, but I don't hate it either.

My first thought was that it looks like skylark, the bird, but with one letter lopped off.

As far as the popularity: there three kindergartners at the school at work at and all in the same class. Skye, Skylar, and Skylynn. Even though they had different names, it's hell trying to keep them straight.

I think of it as a boy's name. My Brother in law is a Skyler.

It's my daughter's name...so of course I love it...

I did go to school with a girl named Skylar. Despite this, I think I would probably say that I prefer it on a boy. Regardless of gender, it's not really my style. Sorry.

I don't like it spelled that way. I love the spelling Skyler.

I have known a few boy skylars... but I like it as a girls name better.

I think it's really quite tacky. Stripper or porn star, take your pick. That's what it sounds like.

I don't think it sounds like a stripper name. However, I think it with it's variations is a bit too popular and would probably be best used as a middle name. I prefer Sky/Skye, as I think the sky is beautiful. There's an actress with the name Ione (i-oh-knee) skye, and I think that name is beautiful. Sounds like an Irish princess to me.

Bambi takes the cake. (Along with Candi and Brandi!) But I 100% agree with you, I can't picture a Skylar over 35 who isn't a stripper. Sorry.

My Niece's name is Skylar, and I don't really like it. It was super popular in 2002 when she was born, and now it seems dated. Kinda like Brittany in the 80's D:

I do however love the name Sky, which is what we usually call her.

I don't know, I knew sisters named Destiny and Diamond. I think they take the cake. Guess what they did for a living? :)

I like Schuyler, on a boy.

Pffffft. Clearly Destiny and Diamond were accountants. What other profession could have with a name like that? ;)

Yup, I'm thinking what some of these folk are: that it looks like skylark misspelt, that it should be a boy named Schuyler.

I too think of it as a boy's name, and usually spelled Skyler.

On a different note, I just wanted to wish you luck on the baby making. My 5th month of trying I was starting to feel really frustrated; 6 was the lucky month for me.

One of those trendy names, and IMO it won't age very well. I can't picture a 40-year-old named Skylar.

Yep, Skylynn :-P

And really? Putting them in the same class - I felt bad for the teacher.

Wow...I didn't realize how many typos I had in my original comment...must have been a long day at work!
