[identity profile] madamesolitaire.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

I'm new to the community..and so far, I like it.

So here's my question: I'm mulling over girls' names, and I am totally lost. I lean torward more traditional names, but nothing too common, such as Isabella. (Plus, the name is taken by my sister-in-law.) So anyway, both my husband and I have maternal grandmothers with the name Mae, with my grandmother having the name Ella Mae and his just being named Mae. I would l love to be able to incorporate that name in a creative way without having it sound too "Beverly Hillbillies" (Ellie Mae Clampett).
  • I absolutely love the name Lydia, but not with Mae.
  • I thought about reversing it and using the name as Mae-Ella, with an additional middle name.
  • Our last name is Cole.
With that said..does anyone have any nice ideas for a little girl, meeting those criteria?

I really like how Lydia Mae sounds but you said you didn't like Lydia with Mae, so obviously that won't work. Here are some suggestions with Mae as the middle name that might work:

Helena Mae
Julia Mae
Cecilia Mae
Elizabeth Mae
Caroline Mae
Charlotte Mae
Theresa Mae
Sophia Mae
Georgia Mae
Penelope Mae
Eleanor Mae
Violet Mae

I don't particularly like Mae-Ella, but if you wanted to use that as the first name I would suggest using an extra middle name with more syllables just because a one or two syllable middle name after that would sound really choppy, especially with your last name =)

Maybe some of these appeal?

What about Maeve instead of Mae? I think Lydia Maeve sounds nice. =)
