[identity profile] girlsteve.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I now work with about 1000 people, so I can't list everyone, but I was wondering what people thought of the names of my co-workers and their kids? These are the ones that I either really liked, or thought were interesting/unusual:

Adrian (most adoreable boy in the world, ever)
Aida (pron I-E-Dah)
Marlin (dutch, m)
Dee (Indian, m)
Amarie
Jesus (spanish, pronounced 'hey-zus')
Trevin (American)
Ester
Danica (italian woman)
Cordy (American m, that's his full name)
Cassidy
Tobias
Pheobe
Allora (Italian lady, who's dad was French and who's mother was canadian, lived in Italy til she was 14, then moved to the UK)

Please to note that nationalities refer to the people and not the names.

Thoughts?

I like Adrian and Trevin. I also like Aida pronounced like that, and Cassidy is nice.
Marlin, how interesting that he's Dutch...I've never heard of it before! =)

Allora (Italian lady)
Impossibile. "Allora" in italian is the word for "so, though".
No italian would ever think of it as a name!

Ester is actually the italian spelling.

Maybe her French dad and Canadian mom didn't see it that way? Not to say the Italians didn't think it was weird when she lived in Italy.
OP - When I was younger, my email address was Allora@randomemailwebsite.com, so that name brought back some memories for me, lol.

The strange thing is that it's not even a French name, it makes me wonder where her parents got it from!

I thought the same thing, haha. But I must say, being an American living in Italy, I absolutely LOVE the sound of "allora" and say it randomly just because it's my favorite Italian word.. so I could see someone else possibly naming their child that.

I like Cassidy a lot, Ester looks really incomplete without the H, but Esther is a name that I like.

Why not? Have you seen some of the names Americans name their babies? why can't Italian people be as weird?
I actually thought it was interesting

haha well actually I guess they *could* be as weird, but strangely they don't go that route. A weird italian name would me Maikol (ie. Micheal spelled phonetically as an italian would pronounce it).

They don't do word names, for example. They only go as far as color names.

you can't group all of a nation and say they don't do that. Sure they do. it may be less common, but I don't put weirdness or poor taste in names past ANY race or ethnicity! Lol

Well I've lived in Italy since I was born, and I'm almost 25.
I guess I have a pretty good idea about what the name (good and bad) traditions are around here ;)

But I agree that they're bound to fall into any mad trend as any other nation heh!

I like Aida.

I could tolerate Adrian, Marlin, Dee, Ester, Cassidy, and Tobias.

I dislike Amarie, Trevin, Cordy, and Allora.

I hate Jesus, Danica, and Pheobe.
