Just looking for some opinions on nicknames, specifically my son's. He's 2 months old and his name is Lincoln. I usually either call him.. now here's the confusing part.. "Link" or "Linky". I figured I would spell it phonetically and maybe that's my answer right there, but anyway, whenever I've written out "Link" I would write it "Linc" but it seems kind of funny to write out "Lincy" when referring to his other nickname, but if I were to write "Linky" wouldn't it make sense to use "Link" as well. What do you think?

Oh man, I can honestly say that I see the dilemma. That is interesting. I don't know what you would do. I would definitly stick with Linc, because that makes the most sense, but for Linky/Lincy...huh. Because Lincy looks like lynn-see. Try not to ever spell out Linky/Lincy? Just stick with Linc? I don't think that Linky or Lincy look exactly correct, it's weird.

I like the name Lincoln! Just throwing that out there, since I don't think that I've been much help.

I think Linky sounds really juvenile and probably shouldn't be spelled out or said beyond family after about six or seven. =P

Go with Linc or Link. People who know his full name will probably guess it's spelled Linc, and people who think that IS his name will probably spell it Link, if that influences your decision.

I can see the problem, but I'd use all 3.

I say you don't use Linky/Lincy at all on paper. If you need to write his name down, use Linc or Lincoln.
They both look pretty ridiculous.

My name is Rebekka, but when I spell out my nicknames, I get Becky or Becks. I don't think changing the letter on the end to k is a bad thing at all. Many nicknames aren't literally a section of letters from a person's name.

I would stick with Link/Linky. But then again, when he's older, you're probably going to stick with JUST Link, so it really won't matter (I say this because I have a hard time seeing a 10 year old boy being called Linky and not being picked on for it).

Cool! It reminds me of Link from Hairspray, Tracey Turnblatt's boyfriend, so I think it's an awesome nickname.

yeah, i would just use link or linky, despite it being spelled lincoln. a lot of people called "zack" are really "zachary". i think it's fine.

Just use Link... Mike is a nickname for Michael, Zack is a nickname for Zachary, and so on.

For this name, I would go with Link/Linky.
I knew a guy whose name was Nicholas but he went by Nich. People liked to call him "Niche" which irritated him badly. I could see the whole "Lins" thing happening with Linc and it would surely irritate the poor child.

I have a friend called Lincoln, who goes by Linc. I think the K would look funny. And although we call him "Lincy" no one has ever had to write it down.

I know a Lincoln who goes by Link. It has always worked for him.
