I always think it's weird when people give their children names that do not match with the others.

For example Kelly Ripa's kids are named:

Michael
Lola
Joaquin

To me, these names do not go together.

I also once knew siblings named:

Karenina (as in Anna Karenina)
Fielding
Jessica

It's like they gave their first two kids unique names and just gave up with the third one.

How do you feel about incongruous names? Do you know any siblings with mismatched names? Please share.

I know a sibset:
Preety
Priyanka
Kelvin

to me, Preety and Priyanka are reflections of their ethnicity (West Indian), and they both start with the same sound, and Kelvin seems too American compared to them...

also:
Brisela
Edward
Deanna
David

Brisela is the only non-common name out of those (it's an "interpretation" of her mom's name), plus it ALWAYS bothers me when 2+ kids have the same initial and the others don't.

That bothers me too. I think it should be all or nothing.

The first set doesn't bother me so much, but the second one is really unmatched. Yes, Karenin and Fielding are both unique, but Karenina is very Russian sounding and Fielding is very English. So those don't go together, and then, Jessica is boring and a bit dated.

Oh, and my friend's name is Nicole and her brother is Miguel. Of course, her parents are from Portugal and Miguel was born over there. If Nicole had been born over there, she says she probably would have been Maria, but her parents moved to the U.S. and they wanted her to have an American name.

I do think that sibsets should be matched in a way because they're usually grouped together. My parents both have oddly matched sets. My dad's is:
Cris (girl and middle name Tina)
David
Lori
Anthony
Wendy
Timothy
Andrew
I've always found it kinda odd how the boys all have classic names and the girls have trendy names for the time. My mom's is:
Susan Jean
Sharon Lee
Shirley D
David Dale
I love my grandparents, but I'm not sure what they were thinking. I'm not sure why they went with David after all the S's (to my knowledge it's not a family name) and especially since they were going to use my grandpa's name as the middle name. Then there's Shirley who is my mom and who was born in 1962. A quick look at the Name Voyager will tell you that the name was practically dead by the time she was born. She's never really liked her "old lady" name. My grandma did suggest at one point that she could by D, but that wasn't much more appealing.

My brothers and I are DDTD. Just by coincidence. Every now and then someone comments to my mom about Tim...

Oh, Oh, and my ASL teacher in high school was Lori. Her siblings were Ronny, Candy, and Fawn.

Michelle - after "Michelle Ma Belle," their first choice was Jessica, glad they didn't go with that.
Erika - After Erica Cane on a soap opera
Israel - after father

Me, my sister and my brother.

I feel like we don't match at all.

I don't care, quite honestly. lol If I have multiple kids I'll be naming them names I like whether they're congruous or not.

RJ (short for Ronald James), Guy, Eve, Kennedy, Kelly are all my siblings (my name being Ashley) and they don't match at all, but I don't see anything wrong with it. We're all our own person so we all have our own unique (and totally different) names. :)

I've never really paid much attention to it, but me & my siblings are Stephanie, Jeremy, Jessica, Johnathan & Barbara. It's odd looking at it written that way, though.

I don't like names that match (for example: Jennifer, James, Jessica), but I do think that they should be the same style.

Here are some examples I know.

Good
Bridget & Ethan
Nathaniel & Ethan
Maeve & Lyman
Hannah, Luke, & Ella
Anthony, John, & Stephen
Andrea & Elizabeth
Kyle, Patrick, Alexander
Isaac, Ethan, & Jared

Bad
Thomas, Timothy, Tiffany, & Ryleigh (f)
Terry, Gerry, & Kim
David, Derek, Daniel, & Michael
Liam, Callum, Nevaeh

My cousin named her kids Erin, Elizabeth, Emma, and SOPHIA XD She claims she didn't even realize she was naming her kids "E" names until somebody mentioned after she had Emma. We all make fun of her for breaking the combo with Sophia lol

Another cousin named her kids Quintin, Sydney, and Jaida. I know Sydney is the feminine spelling. But it's always bothered me that Quintin and Jaida have "I"s in them, and Sydney isn't spelled Sidney. I think it's cause I knew a little girl before Sydney was born whose name was spelled Sidney...I kinda got used to seeing that version XP

My mum's siblings all match, we are Russian:
Alexandra (Shura)
Luba (Lyn when the family came to Australia)
Boris (Rob)
Natasha
Kosta

Same with my father and his siblings - very English:
Stephen Robert
Michelle June
Colin Ian

My sister and I don't really match. I have an Italian and an English name - Bianca Emily, and she has a French and a Russian - Danielle Kira, even though we're not French or Italian at all!

Well, they are each indidivuals and for most of their lives they probably won't be grouped together (The 0-18 range where they live together is much small than the 19-80+ range where they are on hteir own).

I have no idea if my children's names match or do I really think about when discussing names for hopefully future kids [My kids are Owen Amidor Lovel and Alexandra Salome Louisa - there names don't match themselves, let alone each other ;) My top names of Franklin, Cyrus, Ronen, Theron, Patrick for boys and Irena, Mirabelle, Emmaline, Honora, Winifred...few of them have the same origin.]

I once knew three siblings:
Cleopatra
Samson
Amy

I always thought Amy's name was pretty plain compared to the others.

EDIT: typo

I really don't care if names match or not, although I do find it weird if I see a sibset like 'William, Anna & Madysyn', for example. It makes me wonder what the parents were thinking.

holly
ivy
aaron

... i understood the holly and ivy theme, but aaron just seemed out of place. holly actually told me that aaron was supposed to be named thorn. i'm glad her mom got talked out of that one.

Jack
Charlie
Harrison

I just think Harrison seems out of place there. Harry would have been better but it's not even his nickname...he goes by Harrison all the time.

I think that Lola and Joaquin go together, but no, Michael definitely stands out. It is a little weird. I can't really think of any sibsets with mismatching names; I guess that everybody I know used the same style for all of their names.

I dunno... I definitely get the Irish Catholic vibe from the names (especially that Eve followed by Kennedy and Kelly), whether you are or not. It seems your parents had SOME sort of cohesive naming preference.

I don't know if my mom got an Irish influence from Kennedy and Kelly, but I named Eve when I was younger, so... I know she wasn't part of the Irish names. :p

It doesn't bother me too much, they aren't going to be introduced together for the rest of their lives. So long as their given names and surname flow I don't really mind.

I don't think it's that much of a big deal. My sister has three kids- Ryan, Tyler, and Kyann. Nothing too special, but Kyann isn't exactley a common name and Ryan & Tyler are.

I think I recall someone in this forum who know a Vietnamese family whose first few children had Vietnamese names, but then a couple of them had American names, and then the last two had Vietnamese names. That's probably my favorite example!

In my family, I have a Spanish name but the other four have English-language names. I lucked out, there.
