A woman on one of these court tv shows is named Kathryn. When the judge asked her to read a paper where the ex-landlord had misspelled her name as Katherine or Catherine, she read it as Kath-ER-een.

Are people really that dumb to not recognize one of the original spellings of their name?

I'm Katherine and NO ONE has ever mispronounced it. Strange woman...maybe that's why she was on Court TV!

Unfortunately, many adults in America are illiterate. While it is funny in the context of Court TV, it is really difficult to go through life like that. I have several clients at work that cannot spell their name or the name of their place of work. It is terrifying for them to do things we take for granted, like write a check or sign a contract.

I'm hoping she was just being a bitch, and making it obvious that the landlord misspelled her name. I just don't see how someone could mispronounce Katherine. I refuse to believe it. Haha.

No, she was being a smartass. She was trying to be phonemically correct. I think it's pretty funny.

I had an e-argument with someone over that name. She is Australian and pronounces Kathryn differently than Katherine, where I (from the US) don't think they're that different. One has an extra syllable, but they sound pretty much the same. So.. maybe that's one explanation.

my baby sister's name is Kathryn (Kath-rin) and her ex-best friend was Katherine. We jokingly called Katherine "Kath-er-eye-n" and told her she spelled her name wrong. But in no way were we serious.

I certainly hope she was being funny or joking, not just mispronouncing.
