"Girl" Names on Boys

Boy names on girls seems to be all the rage these days, which I don't like. On the flip side, I seem to love girly nicknames for boys or names that were male in the past but have become considered female.

(Note: I am not having children for a long time yet.)

Nickname examples:
Connor nn Connie
Jude nn Judie
The full name would be the given name and nicknames can be dropped as the boy gets older.

Boy Turned Girl examples:
Laurie
Jocelyn (this one I probably wouldn't subject a boy to; I like it on girls just as well)
Dana
Lynn (It's not a favorite but it is my dad and grandad's middle name so I would use it.)
Lane (this one might be more gender neutral)

Of course, if any of the full names were ever to be used, they would be paired with a definitely masculine name. No Dana Lauries running around. ;)

1. What do you think about these names?
2. What do you think about the general idea?

I really like gender neutral names. I have an easier time with a guy's names on girls, but Laurie is one of my favorite boys names, so I don't care that much.

I love Laurie, Marty, Casey, Drew, Logan (for girls), Dylan, Whitney (for boys), and Adrienne/Adrian.

I don't really like the names but I don't hate them. Except Jocelyn, I can't stand that name for some reason.
I'm not really into "girl" names on boys, there might be one or two I wouldn't mind(can't think of them right now) but overall, I'm not too into it.
For some reason I do think boys names on girls is cute. I wouldn't use them but I like it. Elliott(I watch too much Scrubs) and James are cute for girls.

I love Elliot for a girl, too. I love boys names on girls, and gender neutral names for boys are cool as well - I'm friends with an Ashley and a Lynn, both guys.

1. The only name you've listed that I like on a boy is Laurie ... it makes me think of Little Women, although in that case it's short for Laurence.

2/3. I don't like the idea of a girl nickname for a boy's name, but I do like some boys' names that are now generally considered feminine. My favourite example of that is Kelly ... while most Kellys are girls, the first Kelly I ever met was a boy I went to elementary school with, and I've liked it ever since. Lindsay and Ashley are also good examples of this, although I can't imagine myself using either of them.

4. In general, I'm not a fan of boy names on girls. There are a few exceptions that I don't mind, but in all of those cases I LOVE those names on boys. So, while I sort of like Jordan and Morgan on girls, they are among my favourite boys names. I hate the idea of girls named Riley or Evan or Madison or Dexter. Blech.

I really like 'girly' names on boys. I've said this before, but I know a male Cortney and I love his name.

Also, Constant is a really popular last name where I live and all the boy Constants who play hockey (and maybe others but I swear it's only the hockey players who give each other these lame nicknames) go by Connie. Which is girly but they're all tough guys and it amuses me.

Some of the more girly names that I like on boys are Hollis (I actually don't know if this one is a female or male name..it sounds like Holly though..so it feels girly), Cortney, Casey and Shelby.

I don't know if I'd ever actually give a son a unisex name that falls more on the girl side but I like them in theory.

I wouldn't ever give a girly name to a boy, but I don't really mind them either... except Jocelyn. I don't love the name to begin with, but I can't even imagine it on a boy at all.

My dad's middle name is Kelly, which I think is nice. Ashley is cute, too.

1. I realy don't like any of those names on boys...they're all too girly for me. I do like some unisex names, though.
2. I think the general idea is fine...it's nice to be able to use a 'cute' name while actually having a longer, masculine name as official name.
3. No, there are no girl names I like on boys.
4. I generally don't like boy names on girls either, but Elliot has always been a guilty pleasure. Oh, and I like Dylan!

Those names just seem way too feminine to me, and other than Dana and Lane, I can't see any of them anywhere near a boy. I don't think that there's anything wrong the idea, they just have to work. I probably do like Lane on a boy, that spelling, but my middle name is Layne.

And one of my favourites on girls is Blake. I love Blake, I think it's so pretty. Blake, Bryce. I really like Saxon too, but I still don't think that it's a boy name, seeing as how I've only known it on girls. It's just a bit more masculine.

Yeah, I really like them in theory but I don't know if I would use them. This is, in part, because of possible social ramifications, but also because it would depend on the as-of-yet-unknown future hubby. ;) I think a lot of guys would be against feminine sounding names.

Giving a specific gender, a name, or nn that would be taken as the opposite of their gender, might marginally pass with some names on girls, but for boys, no way.

2. What do you think about the general idea? Bad, particularly for boys.

4. How do you feel about boy names on girls? Examples? I think it's horrible to do that to a boy. Boys are expected to be the strong ones. Masculine, strong, tough. Why would you set them up to be ridiculed like that? =/
