[identity profile] crazybouncycrls.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
My husband are trying to have a baby and we are already thinking of names.
We are into names with meanings. So far we have a small list.

GIRL-
Samara...............Protected by God (Hebrew)
Delilah.............Amorous, delight, languishing, temptress (Hebrew)
Laila (Lie-la)......Dark Beauty/Night(Persian)
Ariana..............Very Holy One (Greek)
Chloe...............Young Shoot(Greek)
Scarlett............Red (English)

BOY-
Benjamin.........Son of my right hand (Hebrew)
Kaleb............Heart (African)
Jeremiah.........God will raise up (Hebrew)
Elijah...........My God is Lord (Hebrew)
Isaiah...........Salvation of the Lord (Hebrew)
Cody.............Helpful (English)

Middle names: I would like to have a boys middle name be Asher, it was my brother who died as a baby (Asher Ben) and we would like to honor my mother in this way. She loved the idea.
For a girl we are unsure so far. My moms middle name is Rae, My aunt is LaRae and mine is LaRae as well.

My Name: Michelle LaRae
Husband: Devar Kei-nath

The ones we are favor most
Boys: Benjamin Asher, Kaleb Asher, Cody Asher
Girls: Scarlett Delilah, Chloe LaRae, Laila Rae, Delilah Rose

Scarlett Delilah and Delilah Rose look like stripper names. Delilah just looks trashy in general. I do like Chloe LaRae and Laila Rae, although I feel like Laila would be odd on non-Arab (unless you are, then completely forgo this comment).

Your boys names are surprisingly all right, although Cody screams the 90s to me and I prefer Kaleb spelt like Caleb.

I think you have a lot to work with here. My favorites:
Ariana Scarlet
Ariana LaRae
Chloe Lila
Benjamin Asher
Kaleb Benjamin
Elijah Asher
Cody Isaiah

Overall, really nice list, IMO>

Definitely Benjamin Asher! Great name.
Delilah Rose is very pretty.

If you're choosing names based on meaning, why on earth would you go with Delilah? It's a lovely name, but...

That makes more sense! I like most of your names - though Laila to me is "layla," "Lila" or "Lyla" is lie-la. I like either pronounciation though.

Your names aren't necessarily ones that I'd chose, but I like them all very much!

Samara really isn't my thing just because the only thing I ever think is The Ring. Delilah is a pretty name, but just because of the song, I think that a lot of people are probably sick of hearing it. Laila (even though that's not how I would pronounce that particular spelling) and Ariana are quite pretty.

I think that Benjmain Asher is really nice. I like Elijah as well.

Delilah is near the top of my list; love it! (Although I agree that Scarlett + Delilah = stripper vibes.) Also, Lila could be a nickname, which is very close to another name you like.

The only name on your list I really dislike is Kaleb, but only because of that spelling (I adore Caleb). I think the K makes it look kry8tv, rather than identifying with a particular ethnicity/race/whatever. It doesn't look African to me; it just looks like you didn't know how to spell Caleb. Benjamin Asher is definitely my favorite, though. Cody also wouldn't age well, IMO; it only sounds like a little boy to me. I like the name, but I can't picture it on an adult.

It's hard to combine your girls' names because most of them end with the same sound. But most of them sound good with Rae (I'm not a fan of that name because it sounds like a nickname to me, but there's nothing wrong with it, especially if it's a family name). That said, I think Ariana Scarlett sounds good.

I really like Laila, Chloe, Kaleb (though I prefer Caleb), and Elijah. Your other selections aren't too terrible, though.

Samara - all I can think of is The Ring. LOL, I know, you shouldn't go by that, because I probably would think it was a pretty name otherwise, but I can't shake the association.

Delilah - pretty :)

Laila - I would pronounce this like 'Layla' (which Layla is on my list! :D) I still like it, though.

Ariana - very pretty :)

Chloe - not a bad name, just not my style

Scarlett - not bad :)

Benjamin - LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE. This is my number 1 boys name!! :D (btw, I LOVEEE the combo Benjamin Asher, I think it's gorgeous :) )

Kaleb - not really a fan of this name in general.

Jeremiah - not bad, I kind of like it :)

Elijah - ditto

Isaiah - eh, a bit too religious for me, but fine :)

Cody - I'm actually so sick of this name, but that's just because it's reallllly popular around where I live. I love it on a girl, though, after seeing it on a tv show haha.

Anyway, I don't think your choices are too bad at all! Good luck :)

delilah
leila (but if you want this pronunciation, i'd go with lilah -- i say this lay-luh)
scarlett
benjamin
caleb -- kaleb is awful
jeremiah
elijah
isaiah

of your combos, i'd go with benjamin asher or delilah rose. they're both awesome.

I really like Laila Rae and Benjamin Asher. Laila is also a Finnish name but it doesn't really mean anything in Finnish. It's pronounced Lie-la here so I have a hard time thinking of any other way of pronouncing it :D I don't find Layla nearly as beautiful as Laila but I do like Leila. All you boy names are really nice and out of you girl names Ariana is really really pretty (I have Ariadna on my own baby name list :>)). Good luck!

I would spell it Lila instead otherwise it would be like Layla the song. I think people would still probably mispronounce it anyway which is a huge pet peeve for me.

I like Chloe a lot. Ariana and Scarlett are nice but I think it may be irritating to constantly clarify how many n's or t's are in the names respectively. I don't think of a stripper when I hear Scarlett. I think of Scarlett O'Hara from Gone with the Wind or actress Scarlett Johanssen.

As long as you don't mind nicknames then Benjamin [Ben] and Jeremiah [Jerry] are fine. I don't like nicknames so that's a challenge for me.

I like Elijah a lot. I like Kaleb but again I would find it irritating to have to constantly say "Kaleb with a K".

i like:
Delilah
Laila (Lie-la) - but i think unless you spell it "lila" (or something similar to that), people will be calling her "layla"
Scarlett - but it's getting so popular.
Asher

Benjamin Asher, Cody Asher
Delilah Rose

I feel like Delilah is overplayed. The rest of your list seems to be somehow more thoughtful and respectable, with Delilah as this weirdly trendy intruder.

I mostly like your taste in names, though, and your choices regarding flow! Good luck with the babyness!

=(

i only just looked at your wedding photos like barely a few months ago over in weddingplans! now you're having kids! i feel so far behind! i'm still forever away from the wedding!

i do love Laila (i'd spell it layla tho). and i hate delilah because that stupid song always gets stuck in my head when i hear it.

I like your names in general (except Scarlett, nothing wrong with it, I've just always not liked it).

My favourites are probably Samara, Ariana, Benjamin and Elijah, but I also kind of like Delilah and Chloe.
