New Member - Hello
Oct. 22nd, 2008 05:43 pmMy husband are trying to have a baby and we are already thinking of names.
We are into names with meanings. So far we have a small list.
GIRL-
Samara...............Protected by God (Hebrew)
Delilah.............Amorous, delight, languishing, temptress (Hebrew)
Laila (Lie-la)......Dark Beauty/Night(Persian)
Ariana..............Very Holy One (Greek)
Chloe...............Young Shoot(Greek)
Scarlett............Red (English)
BOY-
Benjamin.........Son of my right hand (Hebrew)
Kaleb............Heart (African)
Jeremiah.........God will raise up (Hebrew)
Elijah...........My God is Lord (Hebrew)
Isaiah...........Salvation of the Lord (Hebrew)
Cody.............Helpful (English)
Middle names: I would like to have a boys middle name be Asher, it was my brother who died as a baby (Asher Ben) and we would like to honor my mother in this way. She loved the idea.
For a girl we are unsure so far. My moms middle name is Rae, My aunt is LaRae and mine is LaRae as well.
My Name: Michelle LaRae
Husband: Devar Kei-nath
The ones we are favor most
Boys: Benjamin Asher, Kaleb Asher, Cody Asher
Girls: Scarlett Delilah, Chloe LaRae, Laila Rae, Delilah Rose

Date: 2008-10-22 10:13 pm (UTC)Your boys names are surprisingly all right, although Cody screams the 90s to me and I prefer Kaleb spelt like Caleb.

Date: 2008-10-22 10:17 pm (UTC)My husband likes Kaleb with a K b/c he says its too "white" with a C. Since our baby will be mixed (white/black) he wants it less "white" if that makes since.
Thank you for your input :)

Date: 2008-10-22 11:10 pm (UTC)Thats true about the song... My name is Michelle and I cannot tell you how many times I was reminded of "michelle my belle" by the beatles. Male teachers tend to sing that out the first time they called my name...ugh. lol.

Date: 2008-10-23 12:00 am (UTC)The only name on your list I really dislike is Kaleb, but only because of that spelling (I adore Caleb). I think the K makes it look kry8tv, rather than identifying with a particular ethnicity/race/whatever. It doesn't look African to me; it just looks like you didn't know how to spell Caleb. Benjamin Asher is definitely my favorite, though. Cody also wouldn't age well, IMO; it only sounds like a little boy to me. I like the name, but I can't picture it on an adult.
It's hard to combine your girls' names because most of them end with the same sound. But most of them sound good with Rae (I'm not a fan of that name because it sounds like a nickname to me, but there's nothing wrong with it, especially if it's a family name). That said, I think Ariana Scarlett sounds good.

Date: 2008-10-23 12:12 am (UTC)I dont know where the Rae part came from but my nana liked it and so my mom-rae, my aunt- larae and my mom liked larae so I got it lol. I dunno I like my middle name a lot, no one else I know has it. I am not totally sold on using it and keeping the tradition going but its a possibility. I think there is tons of potential for middle names we will see
Cody wasnt on our original list but my dad told us that if I had been a boy they were going to name me Cody Bryan (his name is bryan) and my husband was like well if we had a boy we oculd always do part your dad and mom Cody (dads suggestion) Asher (moms sons who died).
So I dunno I can kind of see how it is a childish name and I think my husband was influenced on it lol
thank you for your input.

Date: 2008-10-23 01:00 am (UTC)Delilah - pretty :)
Laila - I would pronounce this like 'Layla' (which Layla is on my list! :D) I still like it, though.
Ariana - very pretty :)
Chloe - not a bad name, just not my style
Scarlett - not bad :)
Benjamin - LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE. This is my number 1 boys name!! :D (btw, I LOVEEE the combo Benjamin Asher, I think it's gorgeous :) )
Kaleb - not really a fan of this name in general.
Jeremiah - not bad, I kind of like it :)
Elijah - ditto
Isaiah - eh, a bit too religious for me, but fine :)
Cody - I'm actually so sick of this name, but that's just because it's reallllly popular around where I live. I love it on a girl, though, after seeing it on a tv show haha.
Anyway, I don't think your choices are too bad at all! Good luck :)

Date: 2008-10-23 01:10 am (UTC)I am thinking that maybe the site that had Laila pronounced (lie-la) was not correct and I am seeing it as Layla too either way I like it.
I love Benjamin too.

Date: 2008-10-23 03:44 am (UTC)leila (but if you want this pronunciation, i'd go with lilah -- i say this lay-luh)
scarlett
benjamin
caleb -- kaleb is awful
jeremiah
elijah
isaiah
of your combos, i'd go with benjamin asher or delilah rose. they're both awesome.

Date: 2008-10-23 01:35 pm (UTC)I like Chloe a lot. Ariana and Scarlett are nice but I think it may be irritating to constantly clarify how many n's or t's are in the names respectively. I don't think of a stripper when I hear Scarlett. I think of Scarlett O'Hara from Gone with the Wind or actress Scarlett Johanssen.
As long as you don't mind nicknames then Benjamin [Ben] and Jeremiah [Jerry] are fine. I don't like nicknames so that's a challenge for me.
I like Elijah a lot. I like Kaleb but again I would find it irritating to have to constantly say "Kaleb with a K".

Date: 2008-10-23 04:14 pm (UTC)Delilah
Laila (Lie-la) - but i think unless you spell it "lila" (or something similar to that), people will be calling her "layla"
Scarlett - but it's getting so popular.
Asher
Benjamin Asher, Cody Asher
Delilah Rose

i do love Laila (i'd spell it layla tho). and i hate delilah because that stupid song always gets stuck in my head when i hear it.
