Quick and easy (or so I thought)
Oct. 19th, 2008 05:21 pmWhich spelling do you prefer: Arline or Arlene?
I'm Jessica Ann Arline and I've been thinking for a while now of changing my middle names.
I will be dropping Ann because it's doesn't have any flavor at all to me. I'm also more of a one-middle-name person, so I've grown keen towards keeping just "Arline", but can't decide on which spelling.
Arlene
*Pros:
- I originally thought for a long time this was the actual spelling of my name, before my mom informed me.
- I'm a huge Kill Bill fan (not a movie fan, not a Tarantino fan, just Kill Bill, so it's special) and Arlene Machiavelli is the name Beatrix Kiddo (Uma Thurman) uses when she changes identity.
- I used to be a great Lene Marlin fan, so Ar-lene would be closer.
*Cons:
- Arline was my maternal grandmother's name and I was named after her (but she had already passed away when I was born, so I don't have a personal attachment to her)
Arline:
*Pros:
- It was the name my mom chose for me (not sure if this is relevant to me or not)
*Cons:
- I hate how it look so much like "airline".
WDYT?

Date: 2008-10-19 03:37 pm (UTC)My mn is after someone, but with a spelling change, and it still counts in anyone's eyes. It's the sentiment that matters.
Arline looks awkward, and like it shouldn't be said like Arlene. So that's confusing too.

Date: 2008-10-19 04:31 pm (UTC)Then again, it's your middle name, not your first, so does it matter that much?

Date: 2008-10-19 06:21 pm (UTC)I'm not a fan of Arlene, since here (and I suppose in Italy as well) we'd pronounce that Are-lain-eh. And I really don't like that.
