What is your honest opinion towards giving a child 2 middle names?

I feel my child is going to be male, although I won't be certain for another month. There are no more men on my husband's side of the family to carry on his last name. I thought about naming my child, if it's indeed a boy, after my husband....however there are a few favorite names I may like to honor as well...

It's all up in the air of course, but what do you think? I don't want the name to seem over done. I plan on making sure the name FLOWS and doesn't sound like jumbled nonsense.

Usually I feel its unnecessary, but if theres have a genuine meaning behind it and it isnt four miles long i wouldnt mind.

I don't mind two middle names if they DO flow and don't sound like jumbled nonsense. So if you do end up deciding on two middle names, I have faith that you'll do it in a way in which I'll approve (and I know that's what's important to you).

My honest opinion is that it doesn't matter. It's your child so you do what you want :) I personally wouldn't do it but that's just because I don't want them for my children. I don't think anything of it when other people have multiple middle names but it does seem hard to find names that not only flow, but that doesn't sound like you're talking about two different people lol

Just have a billion babies and that will solve your problem! :-P

We're doing two middle names. Lukas Keith Elmer. I have two middle names, as does my sister and my brother. I liked growing up with two middle names. There's only room for one on paperwork, etc, and you usually only use your first initial, so I felt special that I had a whole second name that wasn't known. And I loved it.

I don't think our son will love his second middle name like I loved mine, but it's because it's awkward. It's in memory of my grandfather who died when my dad was really young in a tragic accident. I never met him, but he was a good man, and I'd like to honor that set of grandparents the most.

I usually don't like more than one middle name, but when it's to honour a parent and grandparent or something, then I don't mind it.

Both my brother and our cousin have two middle names, the first one being their fathers' names, and the second being our grandfather's.

I have a family tradition of two middle names, and while it's harder to get the flow right, it can also give depth and meaning. I love it :)

On the offchance I have a kid, the kid will have two middle names. The first name and first middle name will be just for that kid, the second middle name will be my maiden name. It's very important that my kid be connected to my family like that.

I have 2 middle names (I'm Jessica Ann Arline), but I dislike them both, so maybe I'm biased.
But I like the fact that a middle name is like the "secret side" to a person, having 2 middle names kind of waters that down.

I'm not opposed to it, though, if they flow and are not redundant.
In Catholic countries it's very common for people to have a double middle name.

I have two middle names, as does my sister, and my child will have two middle names as well. =D As long as they flow, and the syllables aren't all wonky mis-matchy then you are good.

I don't think it's a problem at all; as long as the child has at least one, and no more than two, I don't think it's a big deal either way.

I actually like the idea of two middle names and probably would do it, except that my kids will most likely have a hyphenated last name and I don't want to give them TOO MUCH of a mouthful of a name.

I could not care less. I really don't think that it matters in the big scheme of things; nobody always uses their middle name, so what it's matter if they have more than one? My sister has two, I have one. I don't understand why people have problems with it. If you have more names that you love, use them!

It is a bit harder to make them flow and not just look like random names thrown together (like I remember a birth announcement on here once: Tessa Sam Tina or something). I'd probably do it myself, but I think it's hard enough to come up with one, haha.

Out of five kids in my family, one has two middle names and one has three. They flow together nicely and that's all I think that matters.

Alexander Carl Robert and Chloe Grace Maria-Cecilia. It doesn't make them stand out anymore than the rest of us do.

And how many times do you actually use your middle name? I had a few friends at camp once who tried to call me by my middle name, but it didn't work very well. Unless you're actively planning on calling your kid by (one of) their middle name(s), it doesn't really matter what they are. I just like names to flow- and not everyone does, so whatever.

I think two middle names works. More than that is over kill for me.

My son has two middle names Ashton Thomas Rhys and I think it flows fine. My daughter (was adopted so we just added a second middle name and it doesn't really flow but theres a lot of meaning behind it) Elle (Ellie) Shauna Abigail.

Even one middle name is a bit redundant because most people just get addressed by their first name, so to me, adding a second middle name is unnecessary. But, whatever floats the boat of the parent. Like others, as long as they aren't long and flow well, then have at it! :)

Oh and, if you tell me when you were born, and how many weeks pregnant you are, I can tell you the gender of your baby now, with almost 100% accuracy.

The name I will use for sure is "Matthew Edward," my husband's name. The other 2 names are Layne and Donald. (our father's names) I still am torn between the two.

Ok, yours is a bit tricky because if you are exactly 7 weeks tomorrow, that would make your day of conception September 2nd, the beginning of a month. So it makes it tricky because with doctors calculations which can be off by weeks, you might have actually conceived in August, which would predict the opposite gender for you, than your Sept. conception.

Because according to your birthday, which I hope I'm reading right as Dec. 3rd? I get confused because I'm Canadian and I grew up with us writing the date day/month/year. Anyway, going by you being 23 years old, and if you indeed are 7 weeks tomorrow, and thus did indeed conceive on Sept. 2nd, you are going to have a boy! If you conceived in August, it's a girl. So looks like your 'feeling' about it being male is correct. ;) Congratulations by the way! :)

Hehe I actually remember when I conceived. It was August 30th! You're close! And sorry about the confusion, but you got it correct, I'm 23. :)

Still my last period was August 20th... The chances for getting pregnant increase 14 days afterward I believe...so even though we were together the 30th, the sperm could have waited until early September.

I got so pissed at the ob-gyn because of all off she was. On the ultrasound picture dated 10/15, it estimates I'm 6 weeks 5 days +-2 days... Ok yes that's fine, sounds about right. But the doctor guessed my date of conception to me around the 10th of September. How she was that off I have no idea.

I know for a fact the date was August 30th when we conceived. That was the last time we "tried" for a baby before deciding we wanted to wait until we had more money.

That's always when you get pregnant, when you plan to wait! LoL

So according to what you know in terms of knowing the last time you tried, and your ob's calculations, according to the gender predicting calendar, you have a 2 day window both ways LOL. August 30th/31st and September 1st/2nd. My instincts lean toward girl, but I know about feelings too. I felt I was going to have a son, and I did, and since you too have a feeling it's a boy, then I would say you're probably right!:)

I had a midwife and she was wrong too in terms of dates. Her first date she gave me was Feb 6 2007, and then she changed it to Feb 9th 2007. Well knowing my intimate personal life LOL I did my own math and I came up with the date Jan 23rd. My son was born Jan. 24th. ^_^

And you're right about getting pregnant when you're not trying, when you decide to wait. That's how I got pregnant too! Show's God is the one in control and He's got a plan and we just have to go along with it. :)

It's funny how everyone I know says babies happen when you aren't expecting them, and now I hear more and more stories like yours to confirm it. lol Ironic because we tried for 6 months and then decided to wait...But that's true... God wants this baby to be born!

And yeah I believe women are much better at calculating the dates than those darn docs. First my due date was May 27th...now it's June 5th. Funny because 5% of babies are actually born on the estimated date the docs give you.

Out of the four names we picked, three have two middle names and one has two first names. All but one of the sets of names are highly meaningful to us; to me, so long as there's the meaning or it flows well, two middle names is fine.

Wow only 5%? I didn't know that, crazy! I can believe it though. I mean, it's our bodies, and our lives, we know what we do 24/7, doctors don't, they only see us for about an hour maybe, (if that) once a week, and that's just at the end of the pregnancy.

I don't usually make birth date predictions, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and say I think your baby will be born between May 20th and May 22nd. ;)

I hope everything goes well and I'm anticipating hearing whether you have a boy or a girl, and what name you go with! :)
