[identity profile] perseph.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Hours after my son's birth, we still didn't have a middle name, so I was frantically searching through a baby name book in anticipation of having to fill out the birth certificate. I came across the name Patrick, and in the haze of adrenaline wearing off, it seemed perfect to me. Unfortunately, once my head was a bit clearer, I remembered that I'd never liked the name, and I still didn't, and what the hell was I thinking. It was too late to change, but fortunately it is just his middle name, and I love his first name.

Anyone else have naming regrets?

Now I'm having another boy in two or three weeks or so. His first name will be Evan, but I have absolutely no ideas for a middle name. Last name starts with a P and is one syllable.

Suggestions? What sounds good with Evan?

I know a couple of people who have naming regrets; one of them is my mom, but luckily, not for my name. A girl that I went to school with, her mom regrets her first name.

Harvey? It was the first thing that came to mind because I know an Evan with that name. Evan Spencer, James, Jacob, Michael.

21 years ago when my first child was born she would have been Evan Lyle if a boy. All three of my children now tell me they are glad I never ended up using the name. I do have one son but changed my mind by the time he arrived. However I still think Evan is an awesome name and Lyle is good as a middle name but maybe not if you have a one-syllable surname. I'm going to stick with 'L' for my suggestions. Someone in an earlier comment mentioned Lucas which I really like but my first thought was actually Lewis.

I have no real regrets in the names I chose for my kids but if I was just starting to have children now I might very likely choose completely different ones because my own tastes have changed a bit as well as what has become more or less popular in naming trends over the last 20 years which would influence my name choices.
