[identity profile] poohbaby.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

We're having baby #4 and we need name suggestions. Siblings are:

Tristan Alexander
Skylar Nichole
Haley Meredith

If it's a boy, the name will Cohen Foster (Cohen is a family name, Foster is hubby's middle name)

But if it's a girl...the hubby and I will continue to fight.  We had chosen Kaida Juliet. Kaida is a Japanese name meaning "Little Dragon" and japan and dragons are both special to us. Juliet is a name I've alwas loved and I think it flows well together. I'm still pushing for this name, however, the hubby doesn't like the "Juliet" references and imagines her being picked on in her dating years (for example, have you found your romeo yet?!)  The husband does like Julia (and I could live with that too) but we can't agree on a middle name for Julia.

So...what are you r suggestions for a middle name. Or heck, even a different name for a girl?!

Thanks in advance!

I like both Juliet & Julia. If you're going with the name Kaida Juliet after all, then I don't think the Romeo & Juliet references will be an issue, since it's her middle name.

Anyway, middle names for Julia:

Julia Faye
Julia Adeline
Julia Elise
Julia Maeve
Julia Elodie
Julia Christine
Julia Claire
Julia Isabelle
Julia Guinevere
Julia Anielle
Julia Adrienne
Julia Evalyn
Julia Esme
Julia Noelle
Julia Elaine
Julia Renee
Julia Selene/Celine
Julia Paige
Julia Dawn
Julia Skye
Julia Blythe

Good luck!

Juliet is a very pretty name and I think you should keep it. People are not going to be teasing your daughter based on her middle name.

unless you're going to call her by her middle name no one has to know what it is unless she wants them to. I never told anyone my middle name. I think Juliet is perfect with Kaida. If you didn't mind the matching endings you could use Kaida Julietta. Maybe people wouldn't make the Shakepsearean connection then.

I like the meaning of Kaida, but the pronunciation reminds me of the terrorist group Al-Qaeda. I'd go with Julia or Juliet. Maybe Kaida as a middle name

I like the sound of Juliet, I just prefer the spelling Juliette. It looks more complete to me. Julia sounds a lot more dated to me. I like the sound of Kaida Juliet, and you're right, it does flow. But middle name suggestions for Julia: Lindsey, Elisabeth, Caroline, Sydney, Catharine.

I really like Tristan Alexander and Cohen Foster. Cohen used to be on my list, I like it.

I agree with you of course! I love Kaida Juliet. It's amazing, in fact! And as far as your husband cracking lame romance jokes, I think there are far worse things to be made fun of then being linked to the most amazing love story of all time ;]

I apologize in advance for any rude tone this may have. I'm not trying to be mean, just voicing my opinion.

I really think Kaida is a bad choice for a first name. One, because the meaning: she'd be a little girl, not a 'little dragon'. Second, forget the being made fun of for her middle name which most people don't get called by, and don't always mention. I think it's more likely she'd be made fun of because of Al-Qaeda, as the "Qaeda", while not spelled the same as Kaida, sounds exactly the same. Kaida also doesn't fit in with the names of your other children, which are quite traditional.

I really think you should choose a different name for the first name. Either Juliet or Julia. Or something else altogether maybe. As far as suggestions for other names, there's way too many too choose from and it's a matter of personal preference, so it'd be better for you look up names than for others to just suggest names to you, as they'd be more likely to just suggest some names they like. Sorry I'm not more help. =/

Julia, Juliet, and Kaida don't fit in with your sibset, sorry to say. They are nice enough names, but I think a little Julia or Juliet would be out of place because her name is the least trendy and the prettiest. Kaida doesn't have good associations for the reasons already stated, and IMO it sounds too close to Haley (the repeated 'ay' sound). If I had to choose, though, I would go with Kaida, associations and all. It doesn't stick out as much as the other two.

And based on your tastes, I suggest:

Brooke
Autumn
Fiona

This. Especially in the US in this day and age, IMO it is a really really really REALLY bad idea to name your kid something that sounds remotely like one of the most hot-button issues in the past 7 years. When I first read this I thought it was pronounced "KAY-da," which wasn't my style but was fine, but now that I've read others' comments, yeah... If you live in the US, please don't do this. =(

I also agree that neither name fits at all with the rest of your children. Julia fits slightly better though. (And Kaida and Juliet don't fit together, either, for the record.) I love Juliet and it's one of my top choices for girls, so I say screw sibsets if you really love this name, but Kaida is not a good move in this day and age, sorry.

Suggestions:

Jocelyn
Mallory
Jordan
Claire
Sydney
Brooke
Chloe
Madeline
Caitlin
Ainsley
Lauren
Megan
Lily
Natalie
Leah
Courtney
Eleanor

I know, and I love that pronunciation (and the name, truth be told), but of course there are too many people out there who would be like, "She named her baby girl after a group of terrorists?" because they incorrectly pronounce the name.

You're welcome. Good luck with your new baby! :)

Well, you might pronounce it like Kay-duh, but it appears the Japanese (http://www.behindthename.com/submit/view.php?name=kaida) and what most English speakers are saying is in fact a lot closer to the Al-Qaeda bit.

All terrorist mentions aside, Kaida IS going to have pronunciation issues all her life.

I grew up with a few Juliets (including a ballet teacher who was well involved in dramatics in the community), and never once did I hear a Romeo mention. Kaida seems FAAAAR more likely to warrant teasing than Juliet ever would.
