So this girl I know is having a baby, and she's naming it Alyvya, like olivia, only spelled wrong. I feel so sorry for the kid, she's going to be spelling it all the time. danngg.

I know this other girl who's naming her baby Wryleigh. Come onnn. If you are going to name your kid something that resembles a normal name, just spell it right. Geeze.

Why can't you just spell the name like it's supposed to be spelt???

Alyvya...? That just looks dumb... really dumb.

Wryleigh...? That's utterly painful! It doesn't even look good! It's like a giant mix of ugly letters!

I love both those spellings! I'm that kind of namer. There is no 'wrong' way to spell a name. I really like Olivia spelled that way - I don't like it spelled the "right" way.

Hey, my name is Sarah and I'm ALWAYS spelling it.

I know it's not that bad, but my nieces name bugs me: Kimberleigh. lol It's not that weird but couldn't they just do Kimberly?? Maybe it's just because she's a spoiled brat. Plus her middle name is Eileen, ick. I'm such a mean Aunt. LOL I love her though!

I'm with you, I think they're gross. "Riley" is just fine. "Rylee" is pushing it, but "Wryllejals;jdkl;fsksj" or whatever is a headache.

I have a cousin named Alyvia and I think it's cute, but not my style at all. I'm not a big fan of lots of "yyyyy" in names. Too cutesy for me.

Both are very unappealing, though for some reason Alyvya bugs me slightly more. Maybe because it's not spelt phonetically so gives the impression it needs a mangled pronounciation ['alive-yah' or something, as opposed to olive-ee-uh] to go with odd spelling.

Honestly what is the logic behind this whole trend?
'Creative' spellings do not make a name more special or whatever the hell kind of effect people are going for; because guess what, it's the same freaking name.
People will spell it the standard way, you will have to correct them (very tedious and annoying), they will think you're idiots who couldn't spell in the first place, the child will be embarassed, etc.

Am speaking from experience here. My parents, in their dubious wisdom, gave me a very common* name but with a really unusual spelling variant. Still have no idea quite why.
It is very frustrating and embarasing having to deal with that. For many years I didn't even know how it was spelt (because I didn't use it much so didn't get to practise). Now don't get me wrong it's a nice name, but I don't like it enough to put up with such agro.
Fortunatley that was my middle name, and they refrained from repeating the process with my brother.

In conclusion if you want a common name then use the common spelling that it comes with. If you want to be creative or whatever then go all out and use something that isn't common/trendy/whatever.

*relative to the decade and country I was born into.

If I were those kids, as soon as I could spell I would start going by the nicknames "Ry" and "Lyv" and leave it at that.

Alyvya... I would really want to try bargaining with her to at least change ONE of the ys to an i.... it's really having two ys that pushes it so so far over the edge.

I agree, cause Alyvia is kinda cute, but the two y's is overkill.

Alyvya is really bad I thought it was Alee-via before I read that it's supposed to be Olivia. Wryleigh isn't as bad, at least you can guess the correct pronunciation, but it is not pleasing to the eye, my eyes at least.

I know an Alivia, and i prefer that to Alyvia (which looks like Ally-vee-uh). And i think Alyvya is just awful!

Wryleigh is even worse i think, why not just Ryleigh? Or even better..Riley.

Alyvya looks like a vampire missing a front tooth - it has three little fangs in the middle. ;)

I know an Alivia too, and totally agree with everything you said in your comment.
