[identity profile] euphoricm2.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
My baby is due May 27, 2009. What are some names for a girl that sort of "match the season" so to say? I was thinking of some flower-y names....but nothing too generic like "Rose" or "Heather."

Thank you!

Amaryllis! Rylla for short?

Or for non-floral suggestions:

Rain
Tamar (palm tree — Palm Sunday is in spring)
Robin
Columba (dove)
Jemima (also dove)
Paloma (yet another name for dove)
Maia (goddess associated with spring; the month of May is named for her)
Aviva (feminine form of Aviv, meaning spring)

Have you considered the spring theme for a boy? Why should only girls get seasonal names? I quite like Ovid for a boy (having to do with sheep/lambs).

I say it like you when I am referring to the flower. I know a woman named Azalea and that's how she says it as well.

I have to suggest Rosalie. I am a May baby named Rosalie and people always compliment me on my name.

You could also give her the middle name May or Mae.

Ceres means spring (there are variations of that also), you can go to some of the baby name sites and look up names by meaning. I like Lily too, its not too overly flowery like Rose.

I guess just look to actress Poppy Montgomery's family for inspiration:

Poppy Petal
Rosie Thorn
Daisy Yellow
Lily Belle
Marigold Sun

Other than Rosie and Lily, the other first names aren't really that bad, in my opinion.
