We have a family in our church with three daughters, and the 2 oldest are interestingly named - Jaala [Jahh-la] (12) and Mikaeli [Mi-kay-lee] (10). The youngest is Mia (7), which is a more common name these days.

What do you think of these two names in particular?

How exactly do you pronounce Jaala? It seems like it would be butchered a lot, though it's pretty in theory. =D

blech. what is mikaeli? the lovechild of michaela and kaylie? and jaala? is that pronounced like jayla? just the latest greatest kreaytyv spelling? double blech.

Jahh-la. Without the length of the -ahh. Its the [ahh] being the noise you make when the doctor tells you to open your mouth and say "ahh".

It's actually a Biblical name...

I don't really care for either name. I don't like "Mikayla", and Mikaeli sounds too much like Mikayla.

Jaala really isnt my style, it sounds like Jaela which i have always hated, since it sounds like Jail.
Mikaeli is pretty awful, IMO. I hate Mackenzie & it just reminds me of that...
I never know how to pronounce Mia.. i've seen is as MY-UH and also May-uh. But then i've seen Maya prnounced MY-UH. lol so confusing! I like it either way though.

thats the problem (in my opinion) can you honestly picture a grown woman walking around introducing herself as mikaeli? give me a break. so maybe its cute now, and too many people (again, imo) forget that their cute little baby is going to grow up someday and need to go on job interviews and do other things where they need to be taken seriously and theyll most likely be needing a name that is fit for something more than a doll.
