so, last night my husband was set on Blaise, and I was set on August*. I say last night because we change our minds regularly, so feel free to be as honest as you like, since I'll probalby have already changed my mind before I even hit "post".

*yes, I realize it's a "month name" but that's not why I like it. it's a form of Augustine, which I would be inclined to like if it weren't such a mouthful. I prefer the 2-syllables of August, plus it's my husband's grampa's middle name.

I think August is a bit much, not because it's a month name but because I think it's an old man name, and I think everyone knows how I feel about those, lol.

Blaise is okay, but it's a bit too soapy for me.

I prefer August to Blaise by a considerable margin. I'd like Blaise if people associated it with (and pronounced it the same as) Mr. Pascal, but I bet most people would pronounce it "Blaze" instead of "Blez" — and I personally hate Blaze and names like it.

August is NMS at all, but it isn't a bad name, by any means. It's not B/H/J/Kayden, after all.

I like them both. I like August a bit more, because with Blaise, I think that I only like the way that it looks. August is definitely preferable to Augustine.

I like August. I don't mind month names, but I prefer the more common ones-- June, May, August, April (tho April is kind of ick IMO.. it isn't weird). There are a couple more unusual ones I like, like October, but if someone named their kid September or January I would be D:! Also, it's important to remember that August was named for Augustus, so it's not like it's not a name.

Blaise.. I think it sounds kind cool.. but I don't like the look of it. It's also a bit hoity-toity and seems like it belongs on a soap opera (on par with Blaine or Blair). I suppose if you're yuppie WASPs who vacation in the Hamptons, go ahead and use it! ;)

Nothing wrong I can pinpoint with Germaine other than I've known a lot of.. eh.. trashy people with the name. Dietrich is interesting, but IMO might be better as a middle name. Linus Dietrich?

I like August, so long as the baby isn't born in that month (which would be cruel). The one and only Blaise I've ever known had bright red hair and a better-than-thou attitude. The name makes me think of fire.

i loooooove august so much. i'm not a fan of blaise really. it sounds like the parents were trying to be ~cool~ or something. also, the spelling reminds me of blasé. buttttt i don't think it's that bad. i think august blaise sounds alright.

I really like the name August! Blaise is not my style at all. I think August goes better with your sibset too.
