I have 2 questions about the name Rory and I wanted to see if I could get some answers here

If you met someone named Rory...would you expect them to be a boy or a girl?

if you met someone named Rory and they had a sister named Peyton...would they be a boy or a girl?

I'm interested to see what you guys think of the name Rory...what gender you think a Rory would be and if that changes with a sister named Peyton.

thanks in advance!!!

I'm not even a fan of the show, but I do immediately think of Rory Gilmore, so with that and the current trends of using boys' names on girls, my first assumption would probably be that Rory was a girl. To me, a sister being named Peyton would increase the likelihood that Rory was a girl.

Looking at the numbers now, the use of Rory on girls is still very uncommon (not currently in the top 1,000), so all else being equal, I suppose it would be a little more likely that Rory was a boy. But if all I knew was that there was a sibset called Rory and Peyton, I would assume they were both girls.

The only Rory I know is male, the only Peyton I've heard of (friend of a friend) is female...so Rory to me is male, although I prefer it on a girl.

Rory = boy
Peyton = girl

I think they're both originally boys' names, but that's just based on the associations I have with them.

Rory is a boy and Peyton would be his brother. I always think of Peyton Manning when I hear Peyton.

Both are girl names to me. Rory because of Gilmore Girls, and Peyton because I've only ever seen it on girls.

I would think of Peyton as a girl's name. As for Rory, I'm not sure. I like it for girls, but I also used to watch 8 Simple Rules, and Rory on that was a boy. So I can see it definitely on both. I'm thinking that my first assumption might be a girl, but not much more so than a boy.

Rory as a name by itself would be masculine, but I could see it as a nickname for Aurora on a girl.

I know it is popular for girls in the States, but it's all boy to me (Peyton Randolph comes to mind), so if it was a sister I would think Rory may be a girl as well...

IAWTC completely.

Aurora is a guilty pleasure of mine, and I love the nn Rory for it.
But, thanks to 8 Simple rules, and the boy in high school I had a crush on, Rory is a boy name to me.

Peyton is a girl to me though... But it could go either way in all honesty.

Rory is absolutely always a boy in my mind, and one of my favorite names. Rory as a girl's name is actually one of my pet peeves, despite my love for Gilmore Girls.

Rory as a proper name is a boy's name to me. Rory Gilmore, as some have mentioned, was a nn for Lorelai. Peyton is SO masculine sounding to me. Peyton Manning is one reason.

If, like you said, I met GIRL named Peyton with a sibling named Rory, I guess I would assume that the parents had opposite tastes from my own and that Rory was also a girl.

As I said in my post below, though... Rory was only a nn for Rory Gilmore, not her proper name. Those get a little more leeway.

Peyton would definitely be a girl. That I know for sure. Rory, I do see as fairly unisex, but I like it a lot more on boys.

It sounds like a girl's name, especially with a sister named Peyton. But, the only Rory I know is a boy, a kinda crazy one, but one none the less. I don't think I like the name, but would prefer it on a girl.

Rory is pretty unisex to me, but I think if I heard about siblings named Rory and Peyton I'd assume they were both girls. Peyton is a girl's name to me.

I like the name. I watch a lot of television (when I'm done with homework, of cooooooourse) so I would think both Rory and Peyton are girls thanks to Gilmore Girls and One Tree Hill.

I only know males named Rory. But I think it's cute on a girl.

The only Rorys I know are Gilmore and Kennedy, so naturally, I would expect any Rory to be a girl. Lovely name though!

I like them, gender neutral on Rory, gender neutral on Peyton, but too much CW for you!
